I don't recall where focus was. So I tried what you've suggested. No joy. The
host still grabs it and
holds on.

Sure, that is what I have. But the VM can't obtain the Samsung phone because it
is "in use" by the
host. Even if I check the box, I get an error. The phone shows up in the Device
Notifier of the host
and I need it to be released and not show there. I have no problem with flash drives
and usb WiFi dongles.
