That said, firefox (or any browser utilizing gstreamer) has a slight edge
here, due to

And Firefox is deprecating gstreamer anyway in favor of direct ffmpeg usage.
So all browsers are in the same status. My personal speculation about this is
that the solution. if it comes, will be the same for all browsers, but this is
orthogonal to this discussion.
