Was udev updated? Bruno Wolf III had some sort of the same issue in fc13
[1]. Reverting udev solved it.
Certainly I had run updates earlier today, but I don't know whether udev was
among them. I see an F11 update listed, but not F12. I'm not even certain
that I know how to downgrade udev, but I'll have a go.
