One other thing that you can try to improve performance is click on:
Settings -> Configure Kmail -> Accounts -> (The Account that you are using)
-> Modify -> Advanced
Make sure that there is a check mark next to "List Only Open Folders"
Restart Kontact / Kmail. See if that helps.

That's funny, I don't have this option. Moving kmailrc out off the way didn't
help. My version of Kmail is 1.11.0. Do I have a wrong/old version? Anyone
else misses this option? How can I 'remove' config-files without losing all my
data?
