One handy related tool in amarok is the commandline
amarokcollectionscanner (see end for usage)
You could try running:
amarokcollectionscanner /path/to/dir/with/ripped_cd/
and see what happens. this tool should be fairly verbose in it's
findings and listing any possible errors or problems it encounters.
Thanks Rex, I'll keep that in mind. However I had a brainwave in the
meantime. It turns out the ID3 tags on the new material were incorrect,
so Amarok was showing the files in a different part of the forest.
Amarok is declared innocent until further notice.
But I still think it's too complex and baroque.
