qt-5.6.0 for f22?
by Rex Dieter
Started working on bootstrapping Qt-5.6.0 for f23/epel7/el6 today... and was
thinking that perhaps it's getting a bit close to f22's end of lifetime to
be pushing any big updates (like qt-5.6.0).
Anyone with strong feelings one way or the other?
In particular, anyone using Qt-5.6.0 copr,
https://copr.fedorainfracloud.org/coprs/g/kdesig/Qt5/
on f22 with good results (compared with stock qt-5.5.1 experience)?

Session restore: wIndows not being correctly restored
by Patrick O'Callaghan
[Reposting to keep this searate from the discussion of what the default
settings should be]
This was discussed at one time (https://lists.fedoraproject.org/piperma
il/kde/2015-April/014478.html) but never got anywhere.
In brief: I use Session Restore under KDE. I have a number of desktops
and most windows are restored correctly on the correct desktops. The
ones that appear to have problems are non-KDE apps. Specifically:
* Firefox starts on the correct desktop but with the "This is
embarassing" error page. On clicking the button, the extra window
starts up correctly with all its tabs, but on the current desktop
rather the assigned one.
* Chrome doesn't start at all. When started manually, it fires up all
the correct windows and tabs but on the current desktop instead of the
assigned ones.
I have manually configured the desktop settings for these apps, but of
course that assumes the app lives on only one desktop.
I am now on kf5-plasma-5.19.0-2.fc23.x86_64, using SDDM and Kwin. I'm
open to suggestions but have basically given up on hearing from the
developers (see https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=343875).

Konqueror and SMB-Protocol
by Reindl Harald
why in the world is Konqueror using the stoneold NT1 protocol and even
not to connect when "client min protocol" is enforced to SMB2 or SMB3?
it's somehow pervert when you have a recent samba server running Fedora

Fedora 23 machine on the other side

Running kwalletmanager5 on a different computer via ssh fails
by José Abílio Matos
Again using ssh X forward I am unable to run kwalletmanager5, I get
Couldn't start kwalletd:
QDBusError("org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.Spawn.ChildSignaled", "Process
org.kde.kwalletd5 received signal 6")
kwalletmanager4 does not have this problem and works.
I notice this because I run kontact via ssh, forwarding X, and in F23 (using
the kwallet-4) it worked while in F-24 (using kwallet-5) it does not connect
to kwallet-5.

Attempting for governance position @KDE SIG
by Christian Dersch
Hi Fedora KDE people!
I'm Christian, mostly known as "lupinix" (@IRC) and a Fedora contributor
for few years now. While I'm hanging around in #fedora-kde for almost my
whole time @Fedora and comaintaing some related packages (e.g. KStars),
I'd like to spend more time for the SIG. One reason (besides heavy usage
of KDE software of course ;) is the Astronomy Spin, which is an extended
KDE Spin with an enhanced software collection. So as I use this
beautiful work as a base for the Astronomy Spin, I want to contribute
and help there too.
After last meeting we had a short discussion about the governance
(https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Fedora_Plasma_Product_Governance?rd=Fedora...),
since Kevin stepped down in October, there is an open position. Rex
asked my if I want to step in there and it seems to be one possibility
for me to help the SIG to go forward.
So, feel free to comment, agree or disagree :) I'll be present in next
SIG meeting too.
Greetings,
Christian

Please help test F24 Alpha candidate 7!
by Adam Williamson
Hi folks! We have a new Fedora 24 Alpha candidate compose (like an 'RC'
in earlier cycles) and go/no-go is tomorrow, so if you could please
help test it, that would be great!
The Desktop validation page is here:
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Test_Results:Fedora_24_Alpha_1.7_Desktop
and has download links. You can enter your results by editing the
results tables directly (please follow the instructions on the page for
that) or using the 'relval' tool - 'dnf --enablerepo=updates-testing
install relval', 'relval report-results'.
It'd be great if people could help knock out at least the Alpha tests
for both KDE and GNOME, and of course if we can do the Beta and Final
tests too it helps us find blockers earlier. There were changes to
mesa, kde-settings, plasma-workspace and desktop-backgrounds since
candidate 6, so it'd be good if a few different people can test on
different hardware just to make sure nothing broke horribly.
Thanks a lot folks!

30 sec hangs when interacting with plasmashell and screenlocker
by Sandro Mani
Hi
Since sometime last week on rawhide I'm hitting frequent 30sec hangs,
typically when interacting with the plasma shell and with the screen
locker. I've tried downgrading kernel and xorg, but the issue persists.
Has anyone encountered similar issues and perhaps figured out which
update is to blame resp. what needs to be downgraded?
Thanks
Sandro

plasma-workspace-5.5.5-3 quite broken
by Ed Greshko
Today I wanted to attempt to track down what may be causing kwin to crash consistently for
me on first login. So, I created a new user. In doing so I found that no default apps
were created in the "Favorites" portion of the menu. So, I tried to go about adding apps
to favorites by right clicking on them. The result was no dialog box would appear and
then after a short time plasma-shell would crash. This happens on 3 systems I've tested.
The abrt process reports this as a dup of https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1313419
It always happens for me so I wonder if it happens for others.

In reality, some people should stick to running Windows and others should stay away from
computers altogether.

Is this the most useless error message in KDE?
by Patrick O'Callaghan
Very occasionally, and for no reason I can think of, I get a pop-up
with this message:
"Oops, it looks like a problem has ocurred in a component. The problem
has been reported."
I assume it's from some part of KDE, mainly due to its appearance, but
apart from that, there is NO useful information:
1) Who is telling me this?
2) What is the problem?
3) What is the component?
4) Who has it been reported to, and how?
5) What can I do about it?

Icons not showing when running qt5 applications via ssh (but not only)
by José Abílio Matos
Hi,
when I use X forward over ssh to run qt5 applications on another computer
icons do not show. Attached is an example of what I see.
As an example when I open System Setting (systemsettings5) the categories
do not show any icon. The same happens in applications like kontact or kpat
(cards game). As far as I can see a pattern the problem only occurs with qt5
and not with qt4 applications.
Interestingly I notice that after updating to Fedora 24 (pre-alpha) I see
some icons (coming from gnome themes?).
Another issue that is related is that if I run lyx-2.2 compiled with the
qt5 backend and in the preferences I choose "Use icons from system's theme"
then most of the icons are gone as well.
Is there any workaround?
