Cursor movement logs me out
by Timothy Murphy
I wonder if anyone else experiences this?
Sometimes when I move the cursor with the pointer on my ThinkPad T510
I am apparently logged out, and have to re-enter my password.
This doesn't really worry me, as the re-entry after giving my password
takes only a second, so it is not a proper logging out.
I should say I'm running Fedora 22 with KDE-4.14.11.

Leftover plasma5 package on upgrade F21 to F22
by Michael J Gruber
Hi there,
I fedup'ed my F21 (with plasma 5 from copr) to F22 which mostly went
well. For a few packages, F21 was actually ahead of F22 (sigh) but dnf
downgrade took care of that. There is one remaining piece in "dnf list
extras":
plasma5-5.2.1-2.fc21.noarch
Erasing that takes quite a bit with it (see below).
Which package should obsolete it, and/or how do I get into a proper "F22
only plasma 5 state"?
(There are many other .fc21 packages, which is confusing but normal in
fedora land; that plasma5 package should go away, though.)

F23ß Issues
by Peter G.
For the first time ever, I skipped a Fedora release [blush] I
was using Fedora 21 until Tuesday, when I installed Fedora
23ß to an empty partition :-)
It's too early to say, but I have encountered a few issues:
1. When logging out, the screen goes blank and the display
manager never appears (gdm); I cannot get to another virtual
termimal, so I have to 'pull the plug' and boot anew :-(
2. The audio volume applet in the system tray doesn't always
appear. I think it might be that pulseaudio is not running,
but I think it says it is. I have tried starting pulseaudio
anyway and I think I've pretty much gotten it to work
reliably for the session.
3. A weird problem with apper and dnf. Apper keeps telling me
that I have a whole slew of new updates, but dnf says there's
nothing to do. Huh? I have cleaned all in dnf and still it
finds nothing. What repos is apper accessing?
4. I installed the rpmfusion free/nonfree branched release
packages but I cannot install a thing. I scanned the site and
they have Fedora 22 packages and the rawhide packages are
labelled fc22 as well. Should I do without multimedia for a
month, or should I just install the rawhide fc22 packages?
Will they automatically be dnf upgraded to the fc23 ones in
October?
---
All in all, I haven't experienced anything too serious,
except for the horrible need to kill the machine when logging
out, but I think there are a lot of great improvements! It is
so much easier to deal with akonadi resources now, instead of
having them in the system settings twice (!) under different
names, as well as in the program configurations. Now, they
are configured in the programs that use them. So much better!
Jovie is way better, too, with it appearing in the system
tray and configuration is right there. I even got it working,
with only a little fiddling with the scheechd.conf file.
Still, it doesn't always start up, likely because of the
pulseaudo problem, but I seem to be able to use it reliably
enough.
I really like KDE5@Fedora23! [And I was forced to use Gnome
while I was installing and doing the group install of KDE
Workspaces and I've decided that it's pretty slick, too---but
now that I'm back on KDE, I think I'll stay ;-)]

Changing icon theme requires a power cycle??
by Ed Greshko
This is on a fully updated F22 system.
Used System Settings to change the icon theme from Breeze to Oxygen. After doing so, the icons on the desktop did not change. So, I did a logout/login. When KDE started the apper icon in the systray popped up this warning:
Authorization Failed: You have failed to provide correct authentication. Please check any passwords or account settings.
I could not figure what was wrong, so I decided to reboot. However, it seems impossible to reboot.
[root@f22k ~]# systemctl reboot
Failed to start reboot.target: Access denied
I had to power cycle the system and then all was "OK". Not sure what component to write the BZ against. Any idea?

The trace is probably hidden.
If I start the backend manually the font lists are correct.

Should be fixed for good now in plasma-5.4.1-6 builds (and newer), I queue'd bodhi updates last night.

font management
by Glenn Holmer
System settings -> Font -> Font management doesn't work for me: no
fonts listed for "All Fonts", "Personal Fonts", or "System Fonts";
trying to add one gives "Unable to start backend".
Additionally, KFontView still shows flat lines and a few pixel droppings
instead of the font.
Fedora 22, all patches applied. GeForce GTX 650, nouveau driver. Anyone
else seeing this?

Firefox as default browser in F23?
by Christian Dersch
Hi all,
I've just installed the F23 KDE Beta. Looks nice so far, but I
recognized that Firefox is the default browser now. Personally, I think
at least a better Qt integration for Firefox is required. Otherwise
Firefox doesn't fit well into KDE, especially when using dark themes.
But: Why Firefox as default? Other browsers as rekonq or the previous
default Konqueror fit very well into KDE. A user who wants to use
Firefox can install it via Apper easily...
Just my two cents, Greetings
Christian

Printer Settings asks for root user authentication at every step
by Sudhir Khanger
Hi,
I am asked for root user authentication when I open printer setting. I am
again asked for authentication when I click "add new printer" which opens a
printer add dialog. And again when I click System preferences which doesn't
open any dialog after I validate the authentication.
Is that the normal behavior of printer settings?
