installing 22 when it's available
by Glenn Holmer
I've been running development builds of 22 and keeping them patched.
When the final is released, should I re-install, or can I just keep
updating?

f22 Fedup SDDM Init 5 Blank Screen
by Jimmy Collins
I've recently upgraded three computers from f21 to f22 via fedup. All three
had been running Daniel Vratil's Plasma 5 packages (with SDDM as a
login/display manager).
Two of the three work flawlessly. One is an old Toshiba laptop running the 32-
bit version, and the other is my new office laptop, a Lenovo running the 64-bit
version.
The third, an old 64-bit HP, fails to start in graphical mode. If I launch in
init 3, I can manually start SDDM or KDE and use the machine with no other
issues. Yet init 5 fails to bring up the login manager every time, leaving me
with a blank screen.
Hitting ESC while attempting graphical login has revealed no error messages so
far. It seems to stop at a different place in the boot process each time.
All three machines are running Intel graphics.
Any thoughts on what I should check or reinstall?
BTW, nice work everyone. Plasma 5 on f22 is shaping up to be a very nice
release.
Thanks!
Jimmy

Please Avoid Elipses in Subject Lines
by Eli Wapniarski
Hi all
I had to go and revisit my anti spam filters because of an issue I had
getting mail out. I visited the mailing list webinterface and noticed
I did not receive a complete thread from it.
The thread began with the subject:
Basic Plasma 5 Crashes...
Please notice the 3 periods at the end of the line. Because my server
has been inundated with efforts to spam, I received a bombardment with
subject lines containing the elipse.
As a result, I had to filter them out. I am sure that other aggressive
anti spam filters will filter out those subjects as well.
Please avoid putting Elipses in Subject Lines.
Thanks

Basic Plasma 5 Crashes...
by Ed Greshko
This bug is kind of bumming me out. https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=347403
I like to use "Folder View" as my desktop settings and I like to add application icons to the desktop. However, after doing that the icon isn't set correctly and right clicking then selecting "Properties" results in a crash every time.
The only workaround is to manually edit the desktop file to specify the icon file.
It is bumming me out since I would have thought something as basic as that would be working at this point in time.

Where to report this one
by Richard Z
Hi,
when viewing certain directories with dolphin I get very annoying
dialog boxes saying "parsing failed.." without enough context
to tell which file was parsed and what went wrong.
Looking at the debugging output it seems that it happens when
kml files can't be parsed:
dolphin(11499)/kio (Slave) KIO::Slave::createSlave: createSlave "thumbnail" for KUrl("thumbnail:/home/rz/Download/tallestWaterfalls.kml")
dolphin(11499)/kio (KIOConnection) KIO::ConnectionServer::listenForRemote: Listening on "local:/run/user/1000/ksocket-rz/dolphint11499.slave-socket"
dolphin(11499)/kio (KIOJob) KIO::SlaveInterface::dispatch: error 104 "Cannot create thumbnail for /home/rz/Download/tallestWaterfalls.kml"
dolphin(11499)/kio (KIOJob) KIO::TransferJob::slotFinished: KUrl("thumbnail:/home/rz/Download/tallestWaterfalls.kml")
Which compnenent is it?
It is fairly unimportant whether the files can be parsed but they should
never generate such annoying dialogs.

Re: Plasma 5 - Right Click Desktop - Konsole?
by Rex Dieter
That's something we (fedora) patched in to kde4 (from kde3 times), but we have not yet implemented the same for plasma5.
Maybe if there is sufficient demand.

Subject: Plasma 5 - Right Click Desktop - Konsole?
Under KDE 4 you could right click on the desktop which would bring up a menu that allowed
you to open konsole. I've looked under Plasma 5 but apparently not hard enough because I
can't figure out how to add it. Am I missing something or is this no longer available?
Thanks!

Kernel 4.0.1/4.0.2 won't boot
by Mike Chambers
Anyone gotten the latest kernels above with nouveau video, and updated
F22 to boot and kde to load? The latest kernel I can get to load and
run correctly is 4.0.0-1, and have the updated libdrm package
installed.
I don't know if this is a KDE issue, or if nouveau driver issue or
what.
