Apologies if this is a FAQ, but I saw no FAQ or list archive when I
When I installed Fedora 14, I tried the KDE LIVE install, but it seemed
to be a minimal install, and trying to install all of the packages I had
on my Fedora 11 box wasn't going too well.
So I reinstalled with the full distribution and got GNOME desktop. I
tried it for a while, but I still prefer KDE. When I run:
yum install @kde-desktop
I get the error:
cups-libs-1:1.4.6-1.fc14.x86_64 is newer than cups-libs-1:1.4.4-11.fc14.i686
(approximately - it takes too long to run it just to get the exact
message). If I ask:
yum downgrade cups-libs-1:1.4.4-11.fc14.i686
it doesn't do anything, and if I ask:
yum remove cups-libs-1:1.4.6-1.fc14.x86_64
in an attempt to get KDE to install and then reinstall the newer
package, it wants to remove 247 packages, which doesn't sound like a
Is there any alternative to going back to the KDE live install and
trying again to install all the missing packages?
I used following in my kickstart file to set my own background image for a
Fedora 14 based remix.
But it was not changing the default baground image for KDE Desktop. Still
showing Fedora default (default wallpaper of official fedora release)
Highly appreciate if you could tell me how to fix this.

Today Amarok was updated to version 2.4.0-1 (final?). This version still
crashes in combination with MySQL 5.5.8. Upstream says that the issue is
"resolved upstream". But seemingly it isn't. I've also filed a bugreport
against MySQL . One of the testcases is crashing, because of the same

good day all,
I'm currently using KDE 4.5.95(RC2)
I don't know when it happens or why, but after a while when I click an application icon in my panel to start for example firefox, i get a window popup saying...
The desktop entry file /usr/share/applications/mozilla-firefox.desktop has no Type=... entry
and the app doesn't start.
when i first start kde everything is fine, and then I could go out for an hour or so, then when i get back this happens, I don't know when it starts happening.
to fix it i can just kill and restart plasma-desktop and this will sort it out, but after an unknown period of time, it will happen again
this has been like this for the last couple of releases also.
I wonder if anyone else experiences this and how it can fixed
Since you guys are going to release new versions of your distributions in the coming
months, I'd like to inform you that Michal Malek will release a new version soon --
probably next week.
It'll fix the HAL problems when running K3b on Platform 4.6 by introducing a compile-time
CMake parameter to disable HAL (K3B_ENABLE_HAL_SUPPORT=OFF).
Please include that version with your distro releases. It's a bugfix release, adding no
new features, hence it does not violate any feature freeze which might be in effect for
