ksmserver problem in f12 snap1
by Petrus de Calguarium
I am trying to install f12-snap 1 and I get a message stating
"could not start ksmserver" and then the CD just hangs, so I am
unable to get logged in to run the install program. Also, when I
click "ok", I am returned to kdm and the username is liveuser,
but the password field is blank and there is no indication of
what the password is (leaving blank, using liveuser don't work).
How can I install this?

KDE 4.3 X and plasma-desktop CUP usage
by Emmett Culley
Since upgrading to KDE 4.3 on Fedora 11 I have noticed that X CPU usage
gets up to 99% of CPU usage and plasma-desktop stays around 20% CUP
usage. If I shut everything down on the desktop the usage for both
remains at 80 - 99% and 15- 20%. If I end the session (ctl-alt
backspace) both X and plasma-desktop drop off to nil CPU usage.
Upon restart of KDE CPU usage for X and plasma-desktop is sometimes
normal (low) after the system settles, and some times not. But in all
cases, after some time the CPU usage for X and plasma-desktop climb back
up to 80 to 90% for X and 15 to 25% for plasma-desktop.
Anybody else seeing this?

correct you are.
my bad. :(
how/when, i am not totally sure, where i got things crossed up, but it is was
in my address book.
i was making some changes and made them with an ldif file because i had a lot
of changes to make for both tech list and personal addresses.
because of a lot of first names being same, i added nicknames and there in
got things messed up further.
i just went back thru them and i now believe that i will not have problem.
at least they followed in thread. :)
thank you for calling my attention to my error.

Introducing myself
by Eike Hein
Hi everyone,
Rex asked that I introduce myself upon subscribing, so
here goes :-).
I'm a KDE developer residing in Berlin, Germany. I've
been with KDE for about 4 1/2 years now, and a member
of KDE e.V. for a little over three years.
Within KDE I maintain and release Konversation and Ya-
kuake, am a channel operator on a bunch of the official
Freenode channels (#kde, #kde-cafe and #kde-chat) and
have the usual little contributions all over the place
(Akregator, kwin, Krita ...).
I've been using Gentoo Linux on my systems for the
last close to seven years, but recently started ha-
ving some troubling thoughts abouts the environmen-
tal footprint of the source-based approach, along
with a general desire for trying out something new.
I've been keeping an eye on Fedora ever since Rex
gave that talk about Fedora KDE at Akademy 2006 in
Glasgow, and have been impressed with the work be-
ing done here, so the choice came easy. Plus Fedo-
ra's emphasis on current software, good tools and
system-level improvements also generally fits my
needs and interests.
I know next to nothing about RPM packaging other
than once managing to fix up and build a broken
openSUSE spec file for a PowerPC kernel, and still
have a lot to learn about Fedora, but I hope I can
contribute to the KDE SIG in the future :).

KDE Taskbar Grouping
by Richard Heck
It seems that with the 4.3.0 update, my Gimp windows no longer get
grouped on the taskbar. Anyone else see this, or know how to work around it?

Argh!! Html is on again!
by Anne Wilson
I just opened a new compose window in order to check the Options menu. To my
horror, html mail is enabled. Again! PLEASE, packagers, do ensure that html
mail is never the default in a Fedora package. Let those that want it switch
it on. Heaven knows how many html messages I have unwittingly sent to lists.

Folder view container question
by Emmett Culley
Are there any plans to allow us to configure the grid size of folder view containers?
Will "lock icons in place" ever work as expected? That is, it seems to me that if I check "lock icons in place" in the config dialog, I expect that when I change the size of the container, the icons will remain as placed. even if the borders of the container touch or cover icons in the container.
Should I put in a feature request for grid size definition and a bug report for "lock icons in place" issue? Or are there plans to remedy these issues.
Or are they even issues for others?

NetworkManager Applet goes rogue
by Anne Wilson
On my netbook (F11 updated to last night), over the last week or so I've seen
a few times the NetworkManager applet leaves the system try and parks on the
desktop. Presumably I should file a bug, but is this a NM bug or a Plasma bug?
