kmail send hanging
by Neal Becker
For the past couple of months, kmail has been behaving very badly.
Seemingly at random, sending mail just hangs. Only fix is kill -KILL kmail
and kio_imap, then restart kmail. Happens 1-2 times per day.

snarfed(1) them into our kde-testing repo for testing, feedback.
We'll be queue'ing these for fedora's official updates-testing asap.
Enjoy.

(1) also included in said snarfing was konversation-1.2.1 , with
amarok-2.2.1 coming real soon too.

Problems from old config files
by Patrick O'Callaghan
Old KDE config info continues to cause problems:
1) chromium-browser simply wouldn't work for me (as discussed on another
thread). The spinner span and browser said "Connecting ..." and nothing
ever happened.
2) I can't switch user sessions from my normal login. I get a grey
pop-up box with no message or selection list. The only thing I can so is
close it.
When I log in as a test user (also in KDE), both of these work
immediately with no issues. Clearly the problem is old config files, but
which ones? How is the user supposed to know?
This kind of thing has been a problem with KDE since I've been using it
-- many years now -- but it doesn't seem to happen with other desktops
such as Gnome (or am I being naive?).
We clearly need a way of dealing with this. I guess transparent updating
is a lot to ask, but at least detecting obsolete config files and
warning the user should be a high priority for future KDE releases.
Would it be too hard for each config file to include a comment line at
the beginning with the version of whatever KDE component created it, and
new versions of that component to check the line for compatibility?

F-11->F-12 while using kde-testing?
by Laurent Rineau
Dear list,
I have tried to upgrade my F-11 laptop to F-12, using preupgrade (using
upgrade to Rawhide). All went well, but Qt and kde packages were not upgraded.
The F-11 installed versions came from kde-testing.
The result is that, for example, libssl.so.8 was upgraded to libssl.so.10, and
deps of libQtNetwork were broken. My upgraded laptop was able to box to F-12,
but the KDE session could not be launched.
I have manage to launch "yum update", and updates from kde-testing are now
been downloaded, and it should fix all those problems.
I am surprised that preupgrade allows the upgrade whereas it was foreseeable
that the upgraded set of packages will have broken deps. I am also surprised
that preupgrade do not use the configured repos in /etc/yum.repo.d/, which
mostly are usable both within F-11 and F-12.
What is the recommended way to upgrade from F-11 to F-12 if kde-testing (or
even kde-unstable) is in use? I have another (less experimental) machine that
I would like to upgrade.

Do you watch TV with Kaffeine?
by Anne Wilson
I don't have TV on my system, and I need someone who does to help me put a
little info onto http://userbase.kde.org/Kaffeine about it - what it can do,
any configuration that helps, any hints and tips. If you are willing to help,
either edit the page yourself, or send me the text and I'll deal with
formatting, syntax etc.

Kpackagekit don't ask for password?
by Martin Kho
Hi,
On fc12 I'm no longer asked for the root password before updates are
installed. This starts happening after the latest KPackagekit from November 03
(kpackagekit-0.5.0.3-1.fc12.x86_64 and
PackageKit-0.5.4-0.1.20091029git.fc12.x86_64)
Have someone else experienced this? Is polkit-manager in systemsettings gone?

Crash during 4.3.3 update
by Anne Wilson
I've no idea why, but I had a total freeze during the 4.3.3 update. After
giving it some 10 minutes to sort itself out I had to reboot. On re-
connecting I ran yum-complete-transaction, as the yum command recommended. It
completed without a problem and everything is absolutely fine.
This is one impressive feature :-D

Post 4.3.3 update
by Anne Wilson
Things generally seem to be OK - at least in so far as I haven't noticed any
problems. However, logwatch reports the following:
**Unmatched Entries**
useradd: failed adding user 'mysql', data deleted: 1 Time(s)
I assume this is akonadi-related. Any investigation I can do?
