Now, FC4 has java stuff all over and config stuff all over.
Rather than learning what it is (although I had not found documentation
that explains all the details) I prefer to remove everything and do it
the good old manual way.
OK. You "can" do yum remove libgcj.
HOWEVER, THIS WILL REMOVE OPEN OFFICE, ECLIPSE, AND ALL JAVA PACKAGES
- because yum remove is dumb and doesn't know about alternative JDK
packages. Don't say I didn't warn you!
Also, I don't know how to remove all the links that point into
/etc/alternatives in one fell swoop.
I've also tried jpackage but I did not like it. Again, no control
and
non-free is not as easy to install.
No control? Does it really matter that much where in the filesystem tree
things get installed? I suggest you start learning to like JPackage.
As for non-free not being easy, there are now -compat packages so it's as
easy as installing the Sun JDK RPM and then installing the -compat RPM
from
jpackage.org. No rpm building needed any more!
