(Theoretically this could be packaged for Fedora, but it'd need a maintainer
really commited to making that a value add over the upstream packaging.)

A couple of votes for home-assistant container is promising. A good example of a config file stored locally instead of in the image and of course network configuration.

I'm still open for other suggestions. Got anything smaller?  For my poor little pi with with its itsy bitsy 16G SD card? 

I have no issue with upstream packaging, just that docker.io has a lot of cruft to sift through to find a trusted and well maintained images.  :)  The star system only helps so much.
