Fedora IoT on rpi3B - Feedback
by dimnaea@mailbox.org
Hi everyone,
I'd like to contribute with my feedback on Fedora IoT running on rpi3B.
1) https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/iot/
This resource is very good, however for Linux beginner/intermediate users as I am, it would help to add some more content.
a) Initial Setup once the VM or Phyical device is running
Mention setting the System Locale, configuring the Date and Time (timedatectl). Otherwise curl actions or podman pull might fail due to TLS certificate being invalid.
- Nice resources:
https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/fedora/f28/system-administrators-gui...
https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/fedora/f28/system-administrators-gui...
b) Enabling wireless support on ...
I would suggest adding hints on how to connect to an wifi access point (wpa_passphrase, wpa_supplicant, nmcli device wifi connect $SSID --ask)
- Nice resources:
https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/quick-docs/raspberry-pi/
2) Testing of Fedora IoT utilizing arm-image-installer to flash the SD card
a) Fedora-IoT-28-20181008.0.aarch64.raw.xz is booting and initial use setup user leads to stable system.
- I've also tried the podman-IoT-HelloWorld successfully :
https://fedoramagazine.org/turnon-led-fedora-iot/
b) Fedora-IoT-29-20181010.0.aarch64.raw.xz screen stays black (HDMI) after power on
c) Fedora-IoT-29-20181011.0.aarch64.raw.xz is booting but gets stuck after displaying lots of warnings/errors
- I've captured the screen, so if it helps you I can provide screenshots.
3) Also mentioning that I often get corrupted image file downloads, thus I always do sha256sum check before flashing.
Cheers and wishing a "good day"

Heads Up: Fedora 28 based images
by Peter Robinson
Hi All,
I plan on stopping updates to the Fedora 28 IoT images. They were
mostly a test bed for the overall process and people should be using
the Fedora 29 based images.
Is anyone actually actively using the F-28 images/updates?

Updates on nightly images and docs!
by Peter Robinson
Hi All,
I spent some time over the weekend to cleanup and adjust a little how
we push out the images.
You can now find all the images, and optional installers, at the
following link. We only push out the latest successful compose,
similar to what Fedora in general does. It has the advantage that it's
on the mirror system so you'll be redirected to the closest.
https://download.fedoraproject.org/pub/alt/iot/
New on the images for F-29/rawhide is the Raspberry Pi now has initial
support for WiFi OOTB! Please provide feedback on this.
Finally we have a new docs site, in the next week or so I'll be moving
all wiki content here so this will be the central location for all
docs. Feedback welcome, it's still a little Beta but should be more
polished by the end of the week.

Testing required for WiFi on the Raspberry Pi 3/3B+
by Peter Robinson
So a bit of a mike drop moment...
WiFi on the Raspberry Pi 3 and 3B+ should now work out of the box on
Fedora 29 and rawhide!
As of kernel-4.18.11-301.fc29 and
linux-firmware-20180913-87.git44d4fca9.fc29 which are now stable in
Fedora 29 the wifi interface should just work right away with no extra
steps required.
Please test and report any problems here.
Fedora 28 will come in time, I want to
We're still working to get this upstream, ultimately this will improve
the entire linux ecosystem around not just the Raspberry Pi but the
majority of ARM devices that ship with broadcom wifi and previously
needed the same hack to get wifi to work. The focus has been on the
Raspberry Pi here because of popularity.
Happy weekend!
