Hello everyone,
Hope you are well.
I'm happy to reach out to you via this email, since I've been looking forward to
joining the Fedora project for some time now. I wouldn't normally send long emails, so
I apologize in advance 😀
I don't have formal qualifications in any of this, but mostly different levels of
knowledge on various topics.
Like most self-learners come to realize, connecting the dots is always a monster of its
own.
To give you an overview of what's in my pockets:
• Can work on a terminal and find my way around new stuff.
• Can create basic scripts.
• General knowledge of the OS
• Very basic knowledge of JAVA, Python and SQL
• Problem solving: though I come from a completely different background (audit/tax), I
do spend my days figuring out stuff. I might need to go through a learning curve in many
aspects, but I come equipped with patience and the will to find solutions.
• Heavy coffee drinker
What do I want?
I want to gain in-depth knowledge of Linux-based systems, both due to personal interest
(mainly) and because I daydream of changing my career path to something related to this
(tax is not the gratest source of joy I've come across).
I think that going for the RHCSA certification would be a good start, so I'm mostly
interested in sysadmin tasks.
I'm also interested in development, but I don't want to get ahead of myself.
That said, it is hard for me to retain things in my head unless I have used them to solve
practical problems. For this reason, I want to make myself of use to other people, help
solve problems, and hope I get to learn from experienced users along the way.
IRC
You can find me in IRC/freenode as hydro_carbon.
Questions for the team:
• Is there something specific you'd like me to get involved with?
• I'm currently going through the documentation (
https://fedora-infra-docs.readthedocs.io/en/latest/ ), and I know I'll be joining the
apprentice's team; I'm not sure if you would like me to start with something
specific.
• Thursday meetings - any recommended browser IRC-client I can use at work? (can't
install stuff on that computer)
• I created the Fedora account and an email address was generated *(a)fedoraproject.org,
to redirect any traffic to my personal account. However, this is not working. Did I miss
anything?
Thank you in advance! (and happy new year!)

Hi Agustin,
I’m fairly new around here myself, but here are some answers to your questions.
1. A good starting point is to look at the issues marked as "easyfix” [1]
2. I use IRCCloud [2]; they have free and pay plans
3. For the email alias to be active, you need to have signed the CLA and be part of a
non-CLA group [3]
Hope that helps a bit.
