Good Morning Everyone, Our infrastructure is mostly a python store, meaning almost all our apps are written in python and most using wsgi. However in python we are using a number of framework: * flask for most * pyramid for some of the biggest (bodhi, FAS3) * Django (askbot, Hyperkitty) * TurboGears2 (fedora-packages) * aiohttp (python3, async app: mdapi) While this makes sometime things difficult, these are fairly standard framework and most of our developers are able to help on all. However, as I see us starting to look at JS for some of our apps (fedora-hubs, wartaa...), I wonder if we could start the discussion early about the different framework and eventually see if we can unify around one. This would also allow those of us not familiar with any JS framework to look at the recommended one instead of picking one up semi-randomly. So has anyone experience with one or more JS framework? Do you have one that would you recommend? Why? Thanks for your inputs, Pierre

[Upgrade] pagure: 2.90.1

Good Morning Everyone, Shortly after releasing 2.15 we realized the SQL-based locking mechanism we had introduced was causing more problems than solving. So we released 2.15.1 to try to mitigate them but that wasn't satisfactory. Patrick has spent the majority of his time since the end of the last week (and thus a good part of his week-end) re-architecturing how pagure writes to git repos so that it is now handled by an async service (running under the service pagure_worker). The change is so large that it was deemed worthy of being called pagure 3.0. However, we needed to stabilize the pagure instance running on pagure.io, among other because it is being used by releng for releasing. So, we decided to create pre-3.0 releases: 2.90.0 yesterday, then 2.90.1 today that include the new architecture but aren't official releases (no tags, just commits in a side-branch and their tarball uploaded). Kevin had +1 the upgrade earlier this week on IRC. Patrick and I being both involved in the change (Patrick to write it, me to test, merge and release) considered we both counted as +0.5, making this the required +2. After pushing 2.90.1 to stg and testing it there, we considered it good to go and pushed it to prod. So pagure should be much more stable and able to cope with the coming days, and we'll cut the official 3.0 after freeze once all docs have been adjusted. Thanks to Patrick for leading this change! Fedora 26 Beta Freeze now in effect

Greetings. we are now in the infrastructure freeze leading up to the Fedora 26 Beta release. This is a pre-release freeze. We do this to ensure that our infrastructure is stable and ready to release the Fedora 26 Beta when it's available. You can see a list of hosts that do not freeze by checking out the ansible repo and running the freezelist script: git clone https://infrastructure.fedoraproject.org/infra/ansible.git/scripts/freezeli… -i inventory Any hosts listed as freezes is frozen until 2017-05-30 (or later if Beta slips). Frozen hosts should have no changes made to them without a sign-off on the change from at least 2 sysadmin-main or rel-eng members, along with (in most cases) a patch of the exact change to be made to this list. Retroactive FBR: Fix mailman3 "template" scheme

Hi, While I was debugging settings not saving for Mailman, I found out that this was caused by the schema of the "template" table being incorrect. It had the following gem: password | timestamp without time zone I've just ran the following query to make it be identical to what's in the code: alter table template alter password type character varying; Can I get +1s on this change? p.s.: This is about 5 hours old, but seems I sent it to devnull.

FBR: up timeouts on kojipkgs varnish

Greetings. Due to issues with slow storage recently we have seen kojipkgs spike in load and be slow to return packages to download. This makes varnish return a 503 back to the build or compose and causes them to fail. FBR: patched libgit2 on pagure.io

Greetings. A while back Patrick made a patch for libgit2 that worked around some of its performance and locking issues. When we upgraded pagure at the beginning of the month we upgraded to the epel version without the patch. I'd like to apply the patch to the libgit2 on pagure.io and hopefully this will fix the performance/lockups we have left. note that Patrick is working on more libgit2 fixes as well as these to try and upstream them, so hopefully we don't have to carry these forever. +1s? kevin

waiverdb in os.fedoraproject.org (prod)?

Cheers on os.stg.fedoraproject.org! I'd love to have waiverdb[1] be the first app on os.fedoraproject.org once it is ready. Do you guys have any estimates of when we could start messing with that in both stg and prod? (Maybe we could help you work out kinks if we can try deploying to os.stg.fp.o even before os.fp.o is ready?) I put a due date in my project planning of "June 30th" for when waiverdb would be available in a production env. It's not "make or break" if we don't hit that date, but if os.fp.o won't be available for many months, maybe we should go ahead with VM-based ansible deployment in the meantime. Folks are welcome to drop by #fedora-admin and we will look at finding people things to work on, answer general quesions about accessing things and how to contribute and hopefully get some things done. :) * We may look at our existing apps where we are upstream and work on triageing bugs/issues or just learning how they work. * We may work on docs and getting things reviewed and merged or new corrections landed. Moving staging to new ip space

Hi, as an apprentice i started to look at this easy fix issue https://pagure.io/fedora-infrastructure/issue/5931 It needs different steps and the admins to work through ansible...maybe it's a good candidate for something to work on the Apprentice Workday on May 24? By now i just attached a stg.phx2.fedoraproject.org file with new stage IPs added, as described by smooge. Of course as the time pass, some changes are made in dns/master (right now pdc-backend03 + pdc-backend03.stg has been added) so i will have to update it when is needed, let me know when you want it. giardia

Good Morning Everyone, I would like to upgrade pagure in prod to 2.15.1, it's a bug fix release from 2.15 that brings upstream some of the hotfix we had to do. Changelog is something like: - Fix the requirements on straight.plugin in the requirements.txt file (Shengjing Zhu) - Fix typo in the fedmsg hook so it finds the function where it actually is - Fix and increase the logging when merging a PR - Fix pushing a merge commit to the original repo - Use psutil's Process() instead of looping through all processes (Patrick Uiterwijk) - Don't email admins for each PR conflicting - Fix/improve our new locking mechanism (Patrick Uiterwijk) - Drop making the token required at the database level since pagure-ci doesn't use one (but do flag pull-requests) - Fix the watch feature (Matt Prahl) The changes #2, #3, #4 where hotfix in prod, the last one as well but turned out the hotfix was incorrect and didn't fix the issue. My idea, if people agree, is to release 2.15.1 tomorrow morning and push it to stg then prod before the US wakes up, and rollback if something breaks. Thoughts? +1? Thanks, Pierre

[FBR] Reset the FMN redis cache

Hello everyone, People have noticed that they aren't getting some FMN notifications, so I spent the afternoon tracking down the issue. It looks as though the redis instance on notifs-backend01.phx2.fedoraproject.org is configured to persist to disk (this is apparently the default config, which is surprising to me). In addition, dogpile.cache is apparently not setting a TTL on keys despite being configured to do so. All this means that everything in the FMN redis cache is _really_ stale and contains invalid objects. For example, the packages a user has ACLs on is cached as a set currently, but the latest version of FMN expects a dictionary. This leads to messages not getting sent that should have been sent. I would like to delete the persisted database (/var/lib/redis/dump.rdb) and restart redis to wipe the cache. FMN does not like redis going down so the workers and backend will likely need to be restarted, and because of a different caching issue[0] this will likely take around an hour (messages won't be lost, they'll just build up in the rabbitmq queue). I'm planning to set up a pagure instance in the cloud as a place to collect testcases that Red Hat will be releasing for upstream consumption and collaborate on the tests as they change into a form that could be accepted by Fedora package maintaners. The request is tracked in the following ticket: https://pagure.io/fedora-infrastructure/issue/6066 I'd like to add upstreamfirst.fedorainfracloud.org to DNS, build the config and push it out to the DNS servers. FMN 1.2 in production

Hello everyone, FMN has finally been updated in production with only a few minor bumps along the way. There is currently a performance problem with worker start-up as it loads all user preferences into memory. This can take around an hour. Future releases will improve this, but until then restarting workers is rather costly (messages will be held in a queue until the workers finish initializing). The changelog is included below: Features -------- * Emails now contain headers to indicate to clients that they are auto- generated. This should stop them from auto-responding (#165). * New rules for the Module Build Service (#174). A nice BDR tip

Jeremy wrote a sweet patch for Bodhi that enables it to run migrations with BDR enabled without me having to ask admins to run SQL scripts. I tested his patch with Bodhi 2.7.0 beta on staging today and it seems to work: https://github.com/fedora-infra/bodhi/pull/1494 So if you are looking for a nice way to become "BDR compatible" while still being able to use "alembic upgrade head", this is a nice way to do it and it should be possible to apply similar code to our other projects. Jeremy and I also discussed about whether a similar patch should go upstream. He suggested that upstream might just say that we should do what we did, so maybe we could just send them a documentation "tip" about this or something?

State of the Review Server (Fresque)

Hey people, Around 2 years ago, we (Pingou, Rahul, Vivek and me) started designing and writing some code for Fresque, a package review server for Fedora. The aim was to replace our current Bugzilla-based process. However, stuff happened in the meantime that were higher priority and Fresque development stopped around last year. It's a Flask app with about a hundred commit, so it's in pretty early stages : https://github.com/fedora-infra/fresque/ My questions are: should we drop it? Rework it? How high a priority is it really? With the switch to Pagure for dist-git, I suspect that the design will have to change anyway. I know it isn't high on my priority list, and I wouldn't mind dropping it, since I feel like both the design and the implementation would need significant work (implementation-wise, the React experience we now have with Hubs would be very useful there). Service account for automated rebuilds?

Hey all, For the automated rebuilds work[1][2], we're going to need a service account with rights to do various things (only in staging for now). For container rebuilds, it will need to be able to request new OSBS builds via koji. For module rebuilds, it will need to be able to commit to dist-git (only for the modules/ namespace). It therefore would need to be in the provenpackager group or have some other special treatment. Kevin pointed out that the only thing we have like that now is the releng account.. but it almost surely doesn't make sense to re-use that account here. We should have some separation.
