Meeting Agenda Item: Introduction Steven Pepperell
by Steven Pepperell
Hi,
My name's Steven Pepperell. Im looking to join Fedora infrastructure
to help out. I'm a unix/Linux systems admin in Glasgow, Scotland (so
GMT), I’ve been a sys admin for 8 years. I work mainly with RHEL5/6,
monitoring using nagios and scripting with bash and python.
I'm joining to get experience of new software and methods and while I
know it’s a cliché to give back to Fedora which I’ve used for many
many years.
I would like to get involved in anything infrastructure design related
as my aspiration is to become a technical architect. However I imagine
this kind of work needs to be earned first I would like to suggest I
start off doing smaller tasks to get the lay of the land, I’ll have a
look though the ticket list tonight.
I can guarantee 2-4 hours a week but there will be times when this
will be less and sometimes more.
My IRC handle will be Zen42, I’ll be around in the next infrastructure
meeting. See you all then.
Cheers
Steven

-# Lines beginning with a hash (#), and blank lines, will be ignored.

-# Most of the following options need only be specified once. If
-# they appear more than once, then the last one seen will be used.
-# Some options are allowed to appear more than once, and the text
-# describing the option will say if this is so.
-#
-
-#
-# If this option is set to 1, it specifies that the mirrors file, which
-# is used when the '--update' and '--versioncheck' options are used, is
-# to be rotated. Rotating the entries in the file allows a basic form
-# of load-balancing between the mirror sites whenever the above options
-# are used.
-# If the option is set to 0, then the mirrors will be treated as if in
-# a priority list. That is, the first mirror will always be used. The
-# second mirror will only be used if the first mirror fails, then the
-# third mirror will be used if the second fails and so on.

-# If this option is set to 0, the mirrors file can only be updated

-# This option has a default value of 'no'.
-#
-ALLOW_SSH_ROOT_USER=without-password
-
-#
-# Set this option to '1' to allow the use of the SSH-1 protocol, but note
-# that theoretically it is weaker, and therefore less secure, than the

-# authentication). If the 'Protocol' option has not been set in the SSH
-# configuration file, then a value of '2' may be set here in order to
-# suppress a warning message. This option has a default value of '0'.
-#
-ALLOW_SSH_PROT_V1=0
-
-#
-# This setting tells rkhunter the directory containing the SSH configuration

-#
-#SSH_CONFIG_DIR=/etc/ssh

-#
-# These two options determine which tests are to be performed.
-# The ENABLE_TESTS option can use the word 'all' to refer to all the
-# available tests. The DISABLE_TESTS option can use the word 'none' to
-# mean that no tests are disabled. The list of disabled tests is applied to
-# the list of enabled tests. Both options are space-separated lists of test
-# names. The currently available test names can be seen by using the command
-# 'rkhunter --list tests'.
-#
-# The program defaults are to enable all tests and disable none. However, if
-# either option is specified in this file, then it overrides the program
-# default. The supplied rkhunter.conf file has some tests already disabled,
-# and these are tests that will be used only incidentally, can be considered
-# "advanced" or those that are prone to produce more than the "average" number
-# of "false positives".
-#
-# Please read the README file for more details about enabling and disabling
-# tests, the test names, and how rkhunter behaves when these options are used.
-#
-ENABLE_TESTS="all"
-DISABLE_TESTS="suspscan hidden_procs deleted_files packet_cap_apps apps"
-
-#
-# The HASH_FUNC option can be used to specify the command to use
-# for the file hash value check. It can be specified as just
-# the command name or the full pathname. Systems using prelinking
-# are restricted to using either SHA1 or MD5 functions. To get rkhunter
-# to look for the sha1(sum)/md5(sum) command, or to use the supplied
-# perl scripts, simply specify this option as 'SHA1' or 'MD5' in
-# uppercase. The default is SHA1, or MD5 if SHA1 cannot be found.
-#
-# A value of 'NONE' (in uppercase) can be specified to indicate that
-# no hash function should be used. Rootkit Hunter will detect this and
-# automatically disable the file hash checks.
-#
-# Examples:
-# For Solaris 9 : HASH_FUNC=gmd5sum
-# For Solaris 10: HASH_FUNC=sha1sum
-# For AIX (>5.2): HASH_FUNC="csum -hMD5"
-# For NetBSD : HASH_FUNC="cksum -a sha512"
-#
-# NOTE: If the hash function is changed then you MUST run rkhunter with
-# the '--propupd' option to rebuild the file properties database.
-#
-HASH_FUNC=sha1sum
-
-#
-# The HASH_FLD_IDX option specifies which field from the HASH_FUNC
-# command output contains the hash value. The fields are assumed to
-# be space-separated. The default value is one, but for *BSD users
-# rkhunter will, by default, use a value of 4 if the HASH_FUNC option
-# has not been set. The option value must be a positive integer.
-#
-#HASH_FLD_IDX=4
-
-#
-# The PKGMGR option tells rkhunter to use the specified package manager
-# to obtain the file property information. This is used when updating
-# the file properties file 'rkhunter.dat', and when running the file
-# properties check. For RedHat/RPM-based systems, 'RPM' can be used
-# to get information from the RPM database. For Debian-based systems
-# 'DPKG' can be used, and for *BSD systems 'BSD' can be used.
-# No value, or a value of 'NONE', indicates that no package manager
-# is to be used. The default is 'NONE'.
-#
-# The current package managers store the file hash values using an
-# MD5 hash function.
-#
-# The 'DPKG' and 'BSD' package managers only provide MD5 hash values.
-# The 'RPM' package manager additionally provides values for the inode,
-# file permissions, uid, gid and other values.
-#
-# For any file not part of a package, rkhunter will revert to using
-# the HASH_FUNC hash function instead.
-#
-PKGMGR=RPM

-# The following option can be used to whitelist network ports which

-# 1) a 'protocol:port' pair (e.g. TCP:25)
-# 2) a pathname to an executable (e.g. /usr/sbin/squid)
-# 3) an asterisk ('*')
-#
-# Only the UDP or TCP protocol may be specified, and the port number
-# must be between 1 and 65535 inclusive.
-#
-# The asterisk can be used to indicate that any executable in a trusted
-# path directory will be whitelisted. A trusted path directory is one which
-# rkhunter uses to locate commands. It is composed of the root PATH
-# environment variable, and the BINDIR command-line or configuration
-# file option.
-#
-# For example: PORT_WHITELIST="/home/user1/abc /opt/xyz TCP:2001 UDP:32011"
-#
-#PORT_WHITELIST=""

-# changed, then the user is warned that RKH may issue warning messages
-# until RKH has been run with the '--propupd' option.
-#
-# Since the contents of the file vary according to the O/S distribution,
-# RKH will perform different actions when it detects the file itself. As

+# The HASH_FUNC option can be used to specify the command to use
+# for the file hash value check. It can be specified as just
+# the command name or the full pathname. Systems using prelinking
+# are restricted to using either SHA1 or MD5 functions. To get rkhunter
+# to look for the sha1(sum)/md5(sum) command, or to use the supplied
+# perl scripts, simply specify this option as 'SHA1' or 'MD5' in
+# uppercase. The default is SHA1, or MD5 if SHA1 cannot be found.
+#
+# A value of 'NONE' (in uppercase) can be specified to indicate that
+# no hash function should be used. Rootkit Hunter will detect this and
+# automatically disable the file hash checks.
+#
+# Examples:
+# For Solaris 9 : HASH_FUNC=gmd5sum
+# For Solaris 10: HASH_FUNC=sha1sum
+# For AIX (>5.2): HASH_FUNC="csum -hMD5"
+# For NetBSD : HASH_FUNC="cksum -a sha512"
+#
+# NOTE: If the hash function is changed then you MUST run rkhunter with
+# the '--propupd' option to rebuild the file properties database.
+#
+HASH_FUNC=sha1sum
+
+#
+# The HASH_FLD_IDX option specifies which field from the HASH_FUNC
+# command output contains the hash value. The fields are assumed to
+# be space-separated. The default value is one, but for *BSD users
+# rkhunter will, by default, use a value of 4 if the HASH_FUNC option
+# has not been set. The option value must be a positive integer.
+#
+#HASH_FLD_IDX=4
+
+#
+# The PKGMGR option tells rkhunter to use the specified package manager
+# to obtain the file property information. This is used when updating
+# the file properties file 'rkhunter.dat', and when running the file
+# properties check. For RedHat/RPM-based systems, 'RPM' can be used
+# to get information from the RPM database. For Debian-based systems
+# 'DPKG' can be used, and for *BSD systems 'BSD' can be used.
+# No value, or a value of 'NONE', indicates that no package manager
+# is to be used. The default is 'NONE'.
+#
+# The current package managers store the file hash values using an
+# MD5 hash function.
+#
+# The 'DPKG' and 'BSD' package managers only provide MD5 hash values.
+# The 'RPM' package manager additionally provides values for the inode,

Meeting Agenda Item: Manuel Mancera
by Manuel Mancera
Hi,
My nick in Freenode is kaotiko, I have a degree in Computer Engineering Systems
(Universidad de Málaga), in my final project I made a authentication system
by proximity using eZ430-Chronos watch (and Linux, Fedora 16). Actually, I
m programming in Python, C and Java. Also I love the computer security and
the communication networks (Maybe this years i will do a master about it).
I am interested in contributing to Fedora Project because I have used
Fedora for 4 years and Fedora is the linux distribuition that I like most,
also I like the free software and actually I have enough time to contribute
to community and I want to win more experience programming with other
people :)
I would like to contribute in projects with Python, computer security (PAM
for example) and communication networks.
Best regards.

notification from fedmsg.
- people involve: Xavier, ralph?
* New election app in stg.fp.o
- status: TBD
- people involve: Toshio
* Continue the ansible migration
- status: on going task
-
* Fedora Authentication
- We had a full dedicated session on this one with Patrick where we
talked about the architecture,
the workflow and DB schema, what need to be update in apps side.
I still need to finish up the db schema and diagram so people can have
a better view on the thing.

- people involve: Xavier
* Bodhi2
- status: on going task
- should be ready by F20 or F21
- people involve: Luke
* Command-line-interface for fas-OpenID

- people involve: Kevin, Stephen
* FAS sync w/ github
Add a tool to synchronize fas sysadmin-* group membership with
fedora-infra github's
- status: no started yet.
- people involve: Xavier
* DB HA/Shared storage
- Kevin points out a tool to better manage this: repmgr (
http://www.repmgr.org)
- In order to trial this tool, we need to package it for fedora and rhel.
turns out, I did it on my way back to home.
packages are availabe at
http://laxathom.fedorapeople.org/infra-fp/repmgr/
I also fired 3 instances (laxathom-node[1-3]) on fed-cloud02.fp.o to
evaluate
the tool and make sure that's what we need/want.
- status: on going task
- people involve: Kevin, Xavier
If you want to help on this, poke at me or kevin.
* Integrate FAS w/ google authenticator
- write up a plugin for fas which handle google-auth
- definition: people would be able to activate from their account page
and get redirect to the plugin page to validate the provision.
Admin would be able to manage token either via cli (like
right now) or from fas plugin page.
- status: on going task (
https://github.com/fedora-infra/fas/tree/feature/google-auth-plugin)
- people involve: Xavier
* Openshift for devs.fp.o
- Provide a better/easier way to generate devs instance of our apps so
we/apprentices can hack & distribute work faster.

themed vote as a plugin (board election == plugin, wallpapers vote ==
plugin)
* git repo sync/backup
This is an item i just added that we used to talk about but forget to do
at flock.
Sync our github repo to fedorahosted for backup
Please, do add any comments/additional notes you have.

The puppet certs are updated
by Stephen John Smoogen
I updated the certs. For some reason selinux started denying on the new
certs even though they were the same modes. I created a new policy off of
the denials and that seems to have gotten it.

Congrats to Patrick and Pierre
by Kevin Fenzi
I'm happy to announce that I have approved pingou and puiterwijk both
into the sysadmin-main group. This is the core group of trusted folks
that high level access to most things.
Pierre has been a Fedora contributor for a long time and has helped us
a great deal with various applications. He's the author of fedocal and
recently got it created and deployed.
Patrick has been around for over a year and has been very active on
both the sysadmin and application development sides. He wrote and
implemented our openid application as well as lots of other things.
I hope this will allow them both to more easily work on and help out in
Fedora.
Congrats and use your powers for good! :)

[Ask Fedora] Adding social website info and "interesting tags"
by Ankur Sinha
Hi guys,
I've enabled two new things on the Ask Fedora staging instance[1].
One of them is the "Interesting tags" setting which we didn't have
enabled. This lets you add tags and then quickly filter the page by
them. I think this is a good addition and will let folks look for
questions quicker. It'll help folks understand the importance of tags.
What do you folks think? Should I enable this on production too?
The other is the addition of a twitter and google plus follow button in
the right side bar. I'm still trying to figure out how to add one for
Facebook. I thought I'd put a twitter time line widget, but it makes the
page *really* crowded. What do you think about this? Is this an
addition worth making? The complete code to the right side bar additions
is here:
http://fpaste.org/30994/35552137/
The third is the "Short links". I've moved them to the left side bar.
The right is already quite crowded. They don't look very good on the
left side bar. Should I just ask a question and mark it sticky instead?
I also need to work on their regex. (It's too general at the moment)
http://fpaste.org/30992/13760350/
http://tinyurl.com/askfedora-sticky
If you haven't noticed yet, I set a favicon that Kevin (shaiton) made
for us. Looks great!
I was thinking of getting rid of the "Announcement" section. I don't
think any one pays attention to it any way.

Thanks,
