Introduction and request for sponsor
by Larry Brower
Hi all,
My name is Larry Brower and I would like to help out with the Fedora Infrastructure team. I have been using Linux since Red Hat 5.2 and have been working with Linux as a system administrator full time since 2004. I am currently employed as a level 2 system administrator for Hostgator.Com, a large web hosting provider so I work with most of the technology in use on the Fedora servers almost daily and have work with everyone from small sites to large payment processors and ad networks over the past 6 years. I currently do not spend much time on IRC but am always available via emailand phone and should be on IRC more often in the near future. I am also a Fedora ambassador so can be found in the FAS already. I have no issues with asking questions for things I am unfamiliar with since I am fully aware that every organization does things differently. I am interested in helping out with the sysadmin-noc, sysadmin-hosted and/or sysadmin-releng FIG's but am willing to help where needed.
Thanks for your time,
Larry

What is filling up app http logs?
by Stephen John Smoogen
Well the most numerous log is nagios asking for
11731659 GET /voting/ HTTP/1.0
which gets put in both the access log and error log somehow. This is
coming primarily from nagios from noc2 and publictest7. It would seem
we test 3 times a second per app server.
On bapp01 we see in a typical hour the following number of requests
per IP address
1447 10.5.126.51
1389 192.168.1.7
1376 192.168.1.63
1346 192.168.1.14
1289 192.168.1.52
1286 192.168.1.25
1280 192.168.1.12
This is a lot more than the other app servers get per hour
bapp01.phx2.fedoraproject.org
9413
app01.phx2.fedoraproject.org
2369
app04.phx2.fedoraproject.org
2366
app02.phx2.fedoraproject.org
2399
app03.phx2.fedoraproject.org
2372
app6.fedoraproject.org
1381
app5.fedoraproject.org
1429
so there must be a weighting issue going on somewhere.
I think the problem is in haproxy with the following:
listen voting 0.0.0.0:10007
balance hdr(appserver)
server app1 app1:80 check inter 10s rise 2 fall 4
server app2 app2:80 check inter 10s rise 2 fall 4
server app3 app3:80 check inter 10s rise 2 fall 4
server app4 app4:80 check inter 10s rise 2 fall 4
server app5 app5:80 backup check inter 15s rise 2 fall 4
server app6 app6:80 backup check inter 15s rise 2 fall 4
server app7 app7:80 check inter 15s rise 2 fall 4
server bapp1 bapp1:80 backup check inter 2s rise 2 fall 4
option httpchk GET /voting/
If I am reading the context right, the check is every 2 seconds on
bapp1 versus 10 to 15 for the others.

According to a few hosts I checked in Mirrormanager's web frontend the
crawler has not been running for at least three days. Last run was on

Koji push failure
by Viji V Nair
Hi
16 hours ago I have received 4 mails from koji saying:
"python-tilecache-2.11-5.fc14 successfully moved from
dist-f14-updates-candidate into dist-f14-updates-testing by bodhi" and
"python-tilecache-2.11-5.fc13 successfully moved from
dist-f13-updates-candidate into dist-f13-updates-testing by bodhi"
"python-tilecache-2.11-5.fc13 successfully untagged from
dist-f13-updates-testing-pending by bodhi"
"python-tilecache-2.11-5.fc14 successfully untagged from
dist-f14-updates-testing-pending by bodhi"
but 12 hours ago I received couple of failure messages.
python-tilecache-2.11-5.fc14 unsuccessfully untagged from
dist-f14-updates-testing-pending by bodhi
Operation failed with the error:
koji.TagError: build python-tilecache-2.11-5.fc14 not in tag
dist-f14-updates-testing-pending
python-tilecache-2.11-5.fc13 unsuccessfully untagged from
dist-f13-updates-testing-pending by bodhi
Operation failed with the error:
koji.TagError: build python-tilecache-2.11-5.fc13 not in tag
dist-f13-updates-testing-pending
I could see the packages have been pushed to testing, but yum returns nothing.

RFC: Backup upgrade
by Stephen John Smoogen
Currently we are using Bacula 2.4.4 for our backups. With the upcoming
upgrades to RHEL-6 the main backup software will be bacula-5.0.0. I
have 'gleaned' that the upgrade from 2.x to 5.x is not simple which
means we are going to need to do a project on how this will be done.
I am looking for people who have done project management in the past
to help out on this.. mainly it would be to help step through people
who may not have large scale project experience on what things usually
need to be done: scoping, staffing, dropback points, documentation,
etc.

Infra meeting at 20:00 UTC
by Mike McGrath
That's 6 minutes ago :) Just reminding everyone (since I also forgot)
that the infrastructure meeting is still 20:00 UTC even though the time
change happened in the US this last weekend.

Introduction
by O. Atwin Calchand
Greetings All,
I am Atwin Calchand and I have just completed a four year degree in
Telecommunications Engineering. I have been using Fedora since 4 years
now. I would like to join Infrastructure to help in whatever way I can
and to broaden my skills. I am an avid user of Fedora and FreeBSD (I
have set up web, DNS, samba, NAS, asterisk, VPN servers amongst
others). For my final year project, I built a remote network monitoring
system using only open-source software running on WRAP boxes with the
server running FreeBSD. I know Infrastructure uses Nagios for
monitoring from what I have read - I have myself experimented with it
and my final year project actually made use of Zabbix due to dynamic IP
issues. I have also completed the CCNA course and part of the CCNP
syllabus (routing and switching (BSCI and BCMSN)).
I would be very grateful if you could point me to the right place where
I could be useful. I am quite interested in configuring stuff or maybe
start with monitoring until I get the gist of how open-source
collaboration works.
Kind regards,
Atwin
