We dont seem to have many talks being submitted this time. A lot of people have their exams during that time. CfP closes this sunday, and soon after that we can have more details on getting a FAD (Packaging FAD anyone? ) and having a booth too.

Was a announcement send inviting people to submit talks? I did not see one. Last couple of times, we did mail people off list to get them to submit talks as not everyone is paying attention to discussions on the list. If we miss on a project day, then visibility is certainly much less and you might want to consider prodding people to participate. Has everyone who has submitted talks updated the wiki page? Was a request for a booth send out? The wiki page is practically empty.

There was a mail on mailing list regarding this.

Can you get us the list of people mailed last time? It'll help a lot.

We should put this on the #fedora-india as the channel topic. Tweeting and other social networks might also helps since many of the contributors are following each other.

I was talking about a separate announcement.

The list of people we need to mail are the active contributors and that changes every year. FOSS.In speakers on the Fedora Project day from the last few years are a good starting point.

Yep. Send a mail to announcement mailing list. Update the event page in the Fedora wiki, Blog about it so that it reaches Planet Fedora and so on. Got to cast a wide net. If we don't get enough participants after that point, that's fine and we can do something else.

FWIW, I have submitted a single proposal and updated the wiki. Today is the last date before 12 in the night. So get your talk proposals submitted and updated the wiki if anyone here is interested in participating. Think about workouts as well.

Another entry added; I'm planning to do a bugzapping session.

At this point does the wiki reflect the accurate state of the proposals for the event and, do we have an estimate of expenses that would be involved around the event ?
I realize that the event organizers have not published a list of accepted talks. Nonetheless, it would be good to see what was proposed and budgets that are being talked about.
Additionally, is it a good idea to have a section on the wiki to list Fedora folks who haven't proposed talks but would be attending anyway ?
Foss.in has just published a list for accepted talks at [1]. They have mentioned that it is an incomplete list and more talks would be added soon but for the time being none except Saleem Ansari's talk on "Getting started with Fedora Embedded and QEMU/ARM hands-on" has been selected which is Fedora related or mentioned on the wiki.
I think now would be a good time to initiate the talks for Fedora as "Project of the Day" (Hiemanshu might have done so already) and estimate the expenses as Sankarshan suggested.

It is not quite clear from this message. Has anyone already initiated discussions?

Hiemanshu was looking after this. I don't know he has initiated the talks about "project of the day" or not. I'll ping him irc nonetheless.
Here are a few more updates.
It seems from the foss.in's tweets [1] that "Project of the Day" is being replaced by "Mini-Confs". Quoting a particular tweet "Mini-confs will be on a single topic (e.g. "Kernel Security"), for 4 hours, from 2pm to 6pm, with 3-6 speakers, on a designated day."
The registration process for the same will start tonight and will be open until 23:59 IST on Thursday, 04-Nov-2010.

Please do ensure that there is a point of contact for the MiniConfs/PoTD and, he/she is cat-herding with enthusiasm. It would require coordination with both FOSS.IN team and, the line-up of speakers for the specific MiniConf/PoTD. This might also require some thinking about swag/goodies.
Thanks for the heads-up Aditya.

Rahul and Hiemanshu own the ticket for the event, not to mention that Hiemanshu is already there is Bangalore. He would be ideal to co-ordinate the event. I have already pinged him about this on IRC. In case he is stuck with some other engagements I would be glad to apply for the mini-conf myself. We have 5 talks on the wiki out of which one is selected for the main event. Rest four and a couple of workouts should be good enough for our mini-conf.

No one, as of now, owns a ticket for the swags. Someone who can get it done should take it. Last year Susmit was the owner.
Thanks for the heads-up Aditya.
Glad to help :-)

FWIW, I got a invite offlist and have send out a mini-conf proposal back to Atul just a minute back. My talk and Saleem Ansari's talks are part of the main conference. So whomever submitted a workshop also got a slot in my proposal to foss.in along with Arun Sag who has been included to give a talk on Emacs in Fedora. Once I get a positive confirmation, I will put up the full details in the wiki.

Here is a copy of my proposal to the foss.in for the Fedora Miniconf. If there are any corrections to the proposal, please contact me offlist. I have been informed that my talk (yet to be listed) and Saleem Ansari's talks (already listed) have been selected for the main conference. Note that for all speakers in the miniconf, foss.in will not sponsor you but Fedora Project (specifically, community architecture team) can take of care delegate fees, travel and accommodation expenses. If you need to be sponsored, please file a ticket with an estimate at https://fedorahosted.org/fedora-india/ after the miniconf is published on 8th of November so that we can do a budget estimate. If anyone has any questions, do let me know.

Although the content of the miniconfs are not published, I did manage to revise the schedule a bit to leave out the workouts since they are in parallel and include a couple more talks. I haven't heard from foss.infolks on whether they are ok with that but considering that they don't want to manage the content of the miniconfs, I don't expect any trouble. I will confirm with them anyway. Having said that, everyone who has submitted to be a speaker in miniconf, remember that foss.in is NOT sponsoring either travel or accommodation. Find a good economy hotel near the conference and please share it with a fellow speaker if possible, estimate your flight expenses, include the delegate fees ( rs 500) and file a ticket in fedora-india tracker asap with an estimate on the total budget (list out the line items separately too). Helpful if you can get it all done before this weekend.
