Event Owner: I could do this but help appreciated
9-13th of March
Event page: https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Conf.kde.in.2011 . No details yet. Since the cfp date has already passed, whoever submitted talks, please update this page,

I have submitted a talk proposal to GNUnify, 2011 on introduction to GNU Makefiles.

For GNUnify, I have submitted a talk "Tux under the Hood!" - related to Linux on embedded devices. I can take up the event ownership (if its a good idea) but I need someone to help me out. Please send a link to the wiki, I'll keep it organized/updated till the event.

Has the event page been created yet? Looking to add my workshop to it.
I have submitted one named "Python + PyQt4 = <3" - which talks about adding a basic GUI using PyQt4.

On a tangent - did you also consider conf.kde.in ? The topic seems coherent with that conference as well.

I will be having my exams around the time of conf.kde.in and will not be able to attend that. I also submitted another talk "Becoming an Open Source dev, A students perspective" for gnunify. Also is there a wiki page for gnunify yet? If there is none, I will make one.

Hi

Gnunify would be doing a programming contest this year. I suggested that and would be owning it. Here is the idea which I put there.
<snip> We will declare the topics upfront, so the the students will have the time for preparation, for example: * Processes * Locking Primitives (Mutex/Semaphores) * Multi Threading * Network Programming
IMHO we should limit the topics to system programming only.
Here is how we can plan:-
Phase 1. * Written test (Objective, Day1)* Duration 30 Mins No. of Questions 40-45
We can take this test very early in the morning say b/w 10-10:30 AM. So, students don't miss the sessions. We can limit the number of students who can take part in written it.
The result can be declared on the same day post lunch.
*Phase 2: Lab Test (Day2)* Duration 2 hours No. of Questions 2 * * *Rules:* * Create the *make file *for the programs * Push the code on the *git repository* * Create the *Deb/RPM package.*
*Code would be judged on following:* * Logic * Coding Standards * Comments
Putting the rules to use git repository and create the packages will force the students to learn these things; which will be very beneficial for them. </snip>
But some of the plug members were not happy about the scm and package building thing. So, we are not still finalized what we will do.
I would appreciate any input on this.

What is the current status of the planned presence at GNUnify ?
The Event Page : https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/GNUnify_2011
Please add your talks/sessions to the page. I shall be taking some leftover installation media from FOSS.in and distributing them there. I have no idea if a booth can be arranged but I'll talk to some organizers on that. Also since a plan to take up a hands on session on Embedded Linux using infrastructure provided by Fedora Embedded is in the pipeline. Lets see if it materializes.
Anyone willing to help/organize it in a better fashion, or maybe man the boot (if it exists at the event) may please contact me.

Did you have a chance to talk with the organizers ? And, is it a good idea that prior to each event, the event owners and Rahul have a telephonic/IRC conversation to set the context - kind of like a pre-match huddle ?

I'm in touch with Amit Karpe (PLUG) and will inform him about our willingness to have a booth.

True. Will be talking to him in a while once he's back in the evening.
The page [1] tells that we have almost a whole day with us :) I talked to Amit, He confirmed this and directed me to talk to Rahul too once (which I'll do soon)

They have given us the whole day 12th as well. http://gnunify.in/12th-feb-2011
Suchakra's, Shakti's and mine talks are scheduled separately(Not the part of Fedora Activity). What are we planing in the allocated time?

We can have test days? Testing the nightly composes on different hardware. We can also help users become contributors, maybe a hackfest(or a session with Packaging, fixing bugs, etc)? I will also be present in the event and can help out with anything.

The hardware in the college computer labs are mostly standardized. Which perhaps runs counter to the expectation of being able to hit random issues.
However, if someone can actually run a test day, showing how to follow tests, write tests and report results, it could be a good thing to coach.
The other nice thing to do is to figure out how to follow-up and keep in touch with the participants. For example, we seem to have a small bit of success at CoEP (I'm not holding my breath yet though :))

I am talking about the laptops of the students and participants of the event. There is going to be a nice big variety there.

This shouldn't be too hard to do, I'll take up this part, and test the different DEs (esp GNOME 3) and the other normal tests to be done. Would it be possible to get nightly builds downloaded a day before from someone in pune? (It will be a huge download since all spins will have to be downloaded to be tested)

Well with anyone interested we have them make fas accounts, and keep a log of all fas accounts, and later send a follow up about a week after the event seeing if they need any more help or completed what ever they were working on.
Just my 2c.

All the spins are not going to be useful to test at the same time. We need to concentrate on a few. GNOME Shell is a obvious change to test. I will download a few different spins. If anyone is volunteering to work on a specific spin testing or leading a session, then do note down the specific details in the wiki.

[1] lists all the sessions that were carried out successfully at Gnunify. Inspite of some initial hiccups, all actually went well. I request all the attendees to write blog posts and/or Event Reports and update the reports section on wiki. Thanks all for their help.
