Hi,
What should be the default desktop environment for FedoraForKids? IMO, the resulting system must work decent on p4 processor with 256 MB of RAM. XFCE?

yes, its will be suitable since in that case we can reach more base as most of the kids dopn't have high end systems and even beat XP the default OS of starters, since the envt is highly and easily configurable. But can also look for KDE [with out effects], since its much similar to windoz especially the start panel.
Hi,
XFCE is light for sure and would provide a great environment for low end PCs while KDE will enable us to use KDE Education packages which has a lot of useful tools. We have to pick between performance v/s usability.

And perhaps whether the desktop environment has a good bit of localization. By the way, has anyone written up a wiki page with the specifics of what must be there in this spin/remix and, what would be the acceptance criteria for making a release of the spin/remix ?

A lot has to be done in this regard. A wiki page showing the progress can be found at [1]. We are planning to have a workout or something similar if we get a chance at FOSS.in [2].
