Hi folks,
I propose a simple web-FAD to clean up the package maintainer's
wishlist[1]. It shouldn't really take up more than an hour if we have a
few people working on this.
Q. What is the wishlist?
A. It's a list of packages that fedora users would like to see in the
fedora repositories. Unfortunately, the list is not well maintained and
thus, gives inaccurate information to package maintainers.
Q. Benefits of the clean up?
A. Package maintainers will benefit from a well maintained wish-list.
It's a good place to direct prospective package maintainers too, when
they're looking for packages to get started with.
Q. How much time will it take?
A. Maybe an hour and a half, two at the most.
Q. What do I need to carry?
A. A connection to the interweb, a web browser, IRC client. Optional but
recommended: Pizza, bacon, coffee, beer, $food, $music.
Q. Why APAC specific?
A. Folks from one region are more likely to be available at a certain
time. Any one interested is more than welcome to join in, as always. :)
Q. What do I need to know?
A. Reading/writing/wiki editing. Use of package manager tools, bugzilla,
packagedb. Should have FAS account to be able to edit wiki.
Q. What do I need to do?
A. Simple workflow:
- Pick up a package listed in the wishlist
- Check if it is already packaged, or if a review ticket has already
been filed on bugzilla
- Modify wiki page accordingly.
Q. What can I learn during this FAD?
A. Using yum/$package_manager; using bugzilla; package maintainers
process; meet people, get to know your community folks, above all, *have
fun*.
Q. Future plans?
A. See if anyone would like to take over the responsibility of
maintaining the wish list. We could even repeat the FAD every month or
two.
I haven't thought of a time yet. APAC folks, are you up for it? Please
reply with a date and time that is convenient to you. Sometime this
week, Wednesday/Thursday would be nice.
Please forward the e-mail to other APAC regional mailing lists. I'm
cc'ing the Join and India lists.

Hello,
I have been brainstorming with Zoltan Hoppar (of the Hungarian community)
over an idea called the "Fedora ambassadors kit" which aims at helping
ambassadors manage their events, reports, tickets etc.
It primarily aims at being a Live USB distribution, with utilities like
fedmsg, zim installed, along with a static web page* (in say ~/ambassadors)
which can act as a center of managing everything a Fedora Ambassador would
need.
Also, Zoltan is currently talking to mizmo and guys from legal, to check if
he can include artwork (legally approved), banners/business card
designs/posters presentation templates, presentations (demos), and some
inspirational FOSS literature.
The current plan is listed here:
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1J14wIRSiHa9VcmGjBLskVgXz--jlB_w9-qCHLXI…
Feedback appreciated.
Thanks!
*More details about this available on request.

Hello Ari,
Well Ankur is in charge of the work. So if you have got any queries about the work you can ask him.

Use [1] to know more about what we have to do
Regarding your english I feel as long as others can understand what you are saying there should not be a problem. And I would love to teach anyone anything I know but I lack the time. A good suggestion to improve would be to follow english news articles and maybe watch some english movies. :)
Warm Regards,
Sourav
I may be late for pointing this out, but is Fedora having any FOSS.in
presence this time like it was in 2010?
The CFP is over and registrations have already begun.

Hi
If you are into Ruby, this is a fairly major thing one could get
involved with.

Ok, I need some help, from the #Fedora or #Redhat Communities.
There is a really neat project called cft: http://cft.et.redhat.com/
The maintainer said he hasn't had time to develop it further. So, we
need some ruby wiz to take over and adopt the project. So, +David
Lutterkort told me he would be happy if somebody could help out with
it.
So, do you like #Ruby and you're willing to take on a #FOSS project?
Here's your chance.
One way to help is to move this message around so, please, re-share,
re-send or re-whateveryouneedtodo so the message is delivered.
I am willing to maintain/co-maintain the package(s) on the Fedora
repos. So, anyone?
Thanks!

I have copied the Fedora India list to see if there is a local community
member interested. If anyone is from Mysore or willing to travel, do
let Vijay know. Thanks!

Hi,
A Fedora Activity Day [1] was organized at R. V. College of
Engineering, Bengaluru [2] on Sunday, October 7, 2012. The
participants were students from the Master of Computer Applications
(MCA) department.
I started the day's proceedings on best communication practices,
project guidelines that need to be followed, and introduced the
audience to the various Fedora sub-projects that they can get started
with [3]. The next session was on version control systems, and their
importance with an introduction to Git [4]. We had a hands-on session
where the participants practised simple Git commands.
Praveen Kumar (HP) [5] then spoke about Bugzilla, and how one can file
bugs for Fedora. He also explained how to write meaningful bug
reports.
Post-lunch, I introduced them to packaging concepts and terminology.
Using the RPM packaging [6] presentation, we taught them how to build,
and test RPMs. Praveen Kumar explained the Fedora package review
process, and the various tools and infrastructure that we use for the
same.
The final session of the day was from Charles Rose (Dell) [7] who
introduced the participants to virtualization with KVM on Fedora. He
also addressed the basic concepts involved in virtualization with
numerous examples. The department lab is planning to move all their
backend services to Virtual Machines.
Thanks to Prof. Renuka Prasad for working with us in organizing this
workshop. Few photos taken during the trip are available [8].
Regards,
SK
