Re: [fedora-india] fedora for kids at foss.in
by Arnav Kalra
Hello everyone
I think it's my first mail on this list after two yrs.
Actually I study in class 9 and would like to give some tips and ask
some questions
Mr narendra sisodiya do you have the right to use scans or something
like that of ncert books
If yes they should be in the distro
Ncert has not updated syllabus since 2005
Cbse updated the book style this year for making it cce compatible
And an update was last done in 2003
So what I think we should have a néw release only after there's some
change in the syllabi
Some other things to take care of
A basic alternative (basic is a language)
A decent enough c++ IDE along with tutorials as cpp is taught in my
class
Instead of khan academy we should request ncert professors to explain
each and every concept in videos
Then even I may switch back to using Linux as a second distro
I wish that this project becomes successful

Fedora For Kids at FOSS.in
by Aditya Patawari
Hi all,
Recently I met a kid who was aware about Linux and Fedora. He used
Fedora 13 on my laptop quite smoothly.
With an aim to promote children of the age group 8 - 15, we can build
a remix which would contain applications more apt to the kids. I
propose to organise a workshop/workout for the same at FOSS.in. I have
written my idea at [1] which can be refined a lot. Also I would like
to have community's opinion regarding the target we should plan to
achieve and the duration of the workshop, mine is rather ambitious
one, to roll out the remix by the end of FOSS.in. Obviously there will
be other contributors to help out newbies so if you have the zeal to
do something cool, join us and we'll find something for you to do.
Who is in? :-)

Searching Google using Firefox Awesome Bar
by Sawrub
Hi all,
I'm facing an issue with the search feature of the Firefox awesome bar.
Typing text on the awesome bar shows me the bookmarked and visited
pages, but submitting the text on the bar does not shows up the google
results [google is the search engine defined against 'keyword:URL'],
instead it tries to load the page using the search text as the domain name.
e.g. as if i'm typing in "fedora" in the bar and submitting the same, i
was expecting the "i'm feeling lucky" feature of google to come to my
rescue and open up the "http://fedoraproject.org/" but ironically
firefox opens up a page with URL "http://fedora/" and the content from
UnitedDomains probably a page from the DNS [not very clear about
this].Attached is the screenshot of the same page.
It was working fine as i remember a recent copying over of the profile
seems to have corrupted some thing. Is there any solution to the problem.
Tips and tricks that i have tried till time to resolve the issue :
1. Removing firefox using YUM and deleting the profile folder from the
home directory.
2. Changing the advanced settings [about:config] of Firefox for the
values of search engine against 'keyword:URL'
Any help is welcome.

A suggestion to promote Free Media
by Arun Prakash
Hello All,
I found that contributors of Fedora are trying hard to drive the free media Program . I recently found the mail requesting contribution to free media Program. Rather having to mail the CD/DVD with mailing charges, they can send the CD/DVD to places near by . Is that mandatory that a Ambassador should drive free media program ?
All the people who are available with the CD/DVD media can enrol themselves to that media distribution program , If a person from that locality request free media , we can point them to the resource holding person , so that the request is satisfied .
I am also interested in Free media program , I feel this . Please suggest me if I am wrong.
Regards,
Arun Prakash
