Fedora 11 Networking

Some changes in F11 can make things a bit difficult for new users in
India (in particular).
If your broadband ISP requires you to use rp-pppoe, then the rpm will
not be present in the install CD/DVD.
It is similar for dial-up users (Wvdial will be missing)
See https://www.redhat.com/archives/fedora-test-list/2009-April/msg00723.html

Helping new ambassadors find their bearings
by sankarshan
Hi,
I'd like to request a new (and, freshly minted) Ambassador help me out
with a page. The idea is to put in place a small page on the wiki, to
which a new Ambassador from India can be pointed to. Some of the
things that come to mind are:
- links for this mailing list
- IRC channels viz #fedora-india
- how to make a better user page
- list of mentors
and, anything else that a new Ambassador would like put out in writing
and, thinks can help a peer.
Would someone be interested in chiming up for this ?

Hmmm... All linux distros come with wvdial as default. Just type wvdial on the terminal screen. If its still not available then you might have to download it off the internet and compile it.

How to run rpm -Uvh on an RPM that is on the Net repository if there
is no wvdial in the first hand to connect to the Net for machines with
datacards or dialups?

F11 Release Events
by susmit shannigrahi
---------- Forwarded message ----------

Subject: F11 Release Events
To: Fedora Ambassadors List <fedora-ambassadors-list(a)redhat.com>,
susmit shannigrahi <thinklinux.ssh(a)gmail.com>
Hi,
once again I'm here talking about Release Events.
- Why are they so important?
Simply, they introduce, in a human-friendly way, Fedora to the world.
They give the possibility to have a first look of what was done in the
previous 6 months and have people ready to give community the first
support for installation and explanation of all/most of the features.
- What can we do?
Like the past releases, we have to create something really special to
cheer the new release: a worldwide initiative, marked for its
distinctive signs, that mix both the knowledge and party sides.
- Can I hold a Release Event? What I have to do?
Sure. Just add your event in
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/FedoraEvents. According to the release
schedule, we encourage to have such events in the first 2/3 weeks
after the release (May 26th, to stay sure, add a week).
During the next weeks I'll let you know about the other aspects
connected with this initiative (swags, meetings etc.).
My regards and the best wishes
Francesco Ugolini

A work for You [Was: [Ambassadors] Re: Fedora-ambassadors-list Digest, Vol 44, Issue 10]
by susmit shannigrahi
Hi Aveek,
Before you post anything else, or we talk about your suggestions, I
would like to give you a work. Let's see if you can complete that.
If you google with "mailing list etiquettes", you will find that every
mailing list has it's own guidelines for mailing lists. (Like not to
reply digests when replying.) Unfortunately, we have none on our wiki.
So, the work is:
Can you please create a wiki page which will describe the mailing
list etiquettes for Fedora? We want to make this a reference for
future. This may not much different from the LUG guidelines. But
please don't copy blindly.
PS: I was going to give you a link to Shakthi's pdf, but considering
it will lessen the amount of research done by you, I shall refrain
from that. ;)
Thanks.
