Hi folks,
we need to decide on how to tackle the currently open tickets, more specifically these: - xrdb and a few other utilities [1] - Decide on st or alacritty [2] - Package Group Suggestions [3] - i3-Spin is configured to call i3lock via xss-lock, but xss-lock package is not installed by default[4] - Creation of traditional user directories [5]
would you be available at some point this week? Unfortunately I cannot realistically make it to a meeting before 7PM UTC on weekdays. We can also discuss the issues on pagure or on the mailinglist.
Cheers,
Dan

Hi Dan,
I am keen to meet up, but have two outstanding issues:
1. seems the scheduled meeting is at 16:00 UTC (https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/i3/meetings/), but your note below says you aren't available until after 19:00 UTC, and 2. I have no idea how to attend the meeting
Since you took the initiative to raise the topic (and set the agenda), seems we should consider to move the meeting to 19:00 UTC?
Next, can you advise how to attend?
Cheers, Casey

I would suggest either 19UTC or 20UTC, but would prefer not to start any later than that, because I'll be next to useless by then.
Next, can you advise how to attend?
Yes, the meetings happen on irc: #fedora-i3 on libera.chat, but you can also join the meeting via matrix: #fedora-i3:matrix.org or via telegram https://t.me/FedoraI3SIG (with the caveat that you cannot issue any commands via zodbot).

Hi all,
we held a meeting today and decided on the following things:

- xrdb and a few other utilities [1]
xrdb, xset, etc sound like a good idea to include. For the rest please follow up on the ticket.
- Decide on st or alacritty [2]
We settled on xfce4-terminal. This will require a small packaging change in i3 though so that it does not install urxvt by default. I'll take care of that.
- Package Group Suggestions [3]
flameshot sounds like a good idea, LibreOffice probably not (Eduard will look into how other spins handle this).
- i3-Spin is configured to call i3lock via xss-lock, but xss-lock package is not installed by default[4]
I will add a xss-lock invocation to the fedora branded i3 config file.
- Creation of traditional user directories [5]
Will be further discussed in the issue.
The full log can be found here: https://meetbot-raw.fedoraproject.org/fedora-i3/2021-08-11/i3-sig.2021-08-11... but it is a bit confusing because I did not update the topic as I thought zodbot was ignoring me…
Casey also suggested that we improve the documentation and provide a documentation page for new users telling them which applications they can install for heavier tasks (like an office suite). Any takers for creating this page?
Cheers,
Dan

Hi Dan,
I will draft a proposed "new user introduction".
Can you propose a deadline for when it should be ready for review and comment?
Should I do it in github, or is there a fedora based collaboration tool we can use instead?
Casey

We should try to get it published before the GA of Fedora 35 (scheduled for mid October), so having this a week or two before would be nice so that there is enough time to review it.
Should I do it in github, or is there a fedora based collaboration tool we can use instead?
You can use whichever platform you prefer. For docs we often use hackmd.io as it allows for collaborative editing and quick comments, but that's hardly a Fedora standard.
The final page should be submitted as a pull request on pagure: https://pagure.io/i3-sig/docs
Cheers,
Dan

I wrote a draft introduction to the i3 spin.
Please review/edit it at https://hackmd.io/@kcwitt/ByvfH-QeY.
It is pretty rough, but I wanted to put it out there to see what other things anybody thinks should be included. For example, I didn't include anything about changing the background image (because I never changed it myself since you don't see it much in a tiling window manager).
Once all the issues have been identified and included, it probably needs a top down re-organization.
Cheers, Casey
