kanji suggestions

Bug ID: 2084202
Summary: IBus japanese input method, Anthy, doesn't show kanji
suggestions
Product: Fedora
Version: 36
Hardware: x86_64
Status: NEW
Component: ibus-anthy
Assignee: tfujiwar(a)redhat.com
Reporter: sameyepatch(a)protonmail.com
QA Contact: extras-qa(a)fedoraproject.org
CC: i18n-bugs(a)lists.fedoraproject.org,

tfujiwar(a)redhat.com
Target Milestone: ---
Classification: Fedora
Description of problem:
Anthy doesn't show kanji suggestions when typing (ex. typing おとこ won't suggest
the kanji 男, or any kanji for that matter). Using tab or the up/down keys won't
show the kanji candidate dropdown. IBus-anthy preferences have been kept as
default since Fedora was first installed, and the "Candidate Window Page Size"
setting has 10, so it should suggest words as one types.
This issue is not about word candidates regarding usage, but about being unable
to write any word with kanji.
Mozc for IBus, on the other hand, does show kanji candidates as intended.
Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
anthy-unicode-1.0.0.20211224-4.fc36.x86_64
ibus-anthy-1.5.14-4.fc36.x86_64
ibus-anthy-python-1.5.14-4.fc36.noarch
ibus-1.5.26-4.fc36.x86_64
How reproducible:
Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Enable IBus, and anthy in the IBus preferences as input method for Japanese
2. Switch to the Japanese IME then start typing in a window that expects an
input
Actual results:
Word and kanji suggestions don't appear below typed words, so there's no way to
use words with Kanji or Katakana, only Hiragana.
Expected results:
As one begins typing each word, kanji word suggestions should start appearing
below that can be navigated with the arrow keys and selected with the Intro key
Additional info:
Fedora Linux 36 (Xfce) x86_64
Kernel 5.17.6-300.fc36.x86_64
Xfce 4.16 Xfwm4
I previously reported this as bug #2035584[0], but it was closed as 'NOTABUG'
since I failed to explain that this was not an issue about word usage
suggestions. Hopefully this time my explanation is better.

[Bug 2069232] New: translate-toolkit 3.6.0 not submitted to F36 or

Looks like translate-toolkit 3.6.0 has only been built for F35, but not for F36
or Rawhide:
https://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/packageinfo?packageID=4012
This leads to the situation that this update is missing from all future Fedora
releases entirely.
Please remember to build the 3.6.0 update for rawhide and f36, and to submit
the F36 build to bodhi, preferably in time before the F36 final freeze
(otherwise GA repositories / installer images might ship an outdated version of
translate-toolkit).
