Subject: ugly greek letter m (U+03BC) in liberation sans regular
Date: Fri, 21 Nov 2008 20:54:11 +0200
Package: ttf-liberation
Version: 1.04.92-1
Severity: normal
After updating to version 1.04.92-1 the character μ (U+03BC, GREEK
SMALL LETTER MU) appears ugly
when using Liberation Sans.
When using Liberation Sans Bold, Italic and all the variants of
Liberation Serif and Mono, μ appears OK.
You can see the problem in GNOME Character Map, when using Liberation
Sans as GNOME's default
application font and in Firefox.
I am attaching a small html to demonstrate the problem:

[Fedora-i18n-bugs] [Bug 474916] New: Locale not set to en_IN even after selecting "English (India)"
by Red Hat Bugzilla

Summary: Locale not set to en_IN even after selecting "English (India)"
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=474916
Summary: Locale not set to en_IN even after selecting "English
(India)"
Product: Fedora
Version: 10
Platform: i386
OS/Version: Linux
Status: NEW
Severity: high
Priority: low
Component: system-config-language
AssignedTo: psatpute(a)redhat.com
ReportedBy: rohandhruva(a)gmail.com
QAContact: extras-qa(a)fedoraproject.org
CC: psatpute(a)redhat.com, fedora-i18n-bugs(a)redhat.com
Estimated Hours: 0.0
Classification: Fedora
Description of problem:
I installed Fedora 10 using the gnome livecd. While installation I selected the
time zone as "Asia/Calcutta", and keyboard layout as US English. The installed
system shows the output of locale as en_US.UTF8. Thinking that it must be some
quirk, I used system-config-language and set the system language to "English
(India)". However, even after rebooting, the output of locale remains
en_US.UTF8. s-c-l shows the language set to "English (India)" even after
reboot, but "locale" does not concur.
Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
system-config-language-1.3.2-3.fc10.noarch
How reproducible:
Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open s-c-l
2. Set language to "English (India)"
Actual results:
After reboot, all fields of locale still show en_US
Expected results:
They should show en_IN
Additional info:
Here is the output of locale:
[rohan@fedora sysconfig]$ locale
LANG=en_US.UTF-8
LC_CTYPE="en_US.UTF-8"
LC_NUMERIC="en_US.UTF-8"
LC_TIME="en_US.UTF-8"
LC_COLLATE="en_US.UTF-8"
LC_MONETARY="en_US.UTF-8"
LC_MESSAGES="en_US.UTF-8"
LC_PAPER="en_US.UTF-8"
LC_NAME="en_US.UTF-8"
LC_ADDRESS="en_US.UTF-8"
LC_TELEPHONE="en_US.UTF-8"
LC_MEASUREMENT="en_US.UTF-8"
LC_IDENTIFICATION="en_US.UTF-8"
LC_ALL=
and some more useful output:
[rohan@fedora ~]$ cat /etc/sysconfig/i18n
LANG="en_IN.UTF-8"
SYSFONT="latarcyrheb-sun16"
[rohan@fedora ~]$ cat /etc/environment
[rohan@fedora ~]$

I don't know what the issue is, but Comment #17 indicates that it's neither
driver nor server (mind you, dead keys are processed in the client anyway). So
one of you who sees the bug needs to be able to narrow down what causes the
issue.
If you experience the bug create a new user and test this user to ensure
there's no stale settings that may trigger it.

--- Comment #29 from Alexandre Oliva <oliva(a)lsd.ic.unicamp.br> 2008-12-06 16:35:47 EDT ---
It doesn't make sense to assume that a bug filed two months ago is in any way
related with the new bug that appeared 72 hours ago, that happens to display
similar symptoms under completely different circumstances. That's why I
created a separate bug, rather than reassign or close this one.
I know very little about the original bug reported here; all I know is that it
can't be the same bug as the one I and Vaclav ran into. So I'm reopening this,
unless you, as the original reporter of this bug, can verify that it somehow is
the same bug, or that it is fixed.

This bug appears to have been reported against 'rawhide' during the Fedora 10
development cycle.
Changing version to '10'.
More information and reason for this action is here:

> Error: Missing Dependency: python-Levenshtein is needed by package
> translate-toolkit-1.2.0-3.fc10.noarch (updates)
python-Levenshtein has been pushed to f10 so this dependency is now solved.

This doesn't make sense to clone this bug -- if you blame Gtk, then let's go
there, but don't make us unnecessary bugs.
Closing this as duplicate of bug 475008.
