I've only been able to use gofed as root, though I think there's a way
to run it not as root. As for telling it you're packaging a
application, just add --with-build.
When I had the same problem some time ago, I was told to RTFD and add my
user to the gofed group (IIRC: "sudo usermod -a -G gofed USER"), and log
out and back in.
