No RHEL distro has had python 3 support. IIRC upstream started adding
support around 4.4.0.
Rob's statement may sound ambiguous. Upstream started adding Python 3
related improvements in 4.4. Python 3 support became stable and usable a
couple of patch releases into 4.6 release. The latest updates in Fedora
27 and 28 have full Python 3 support.
