dirsrv hangs soon after reboot
by Kees Bakker
Hey,
I'm looking for advice how to analyse/debug this.
On one of the masters the dirsrv is unresponsive. It runs, but every
attempt to connect it hangs.
The command "systemctl status" does not show anything alarming

Even if I use the socket (ldapi://%2fvar%2frun%2fslapd-EXAMPLE-COM.socket) the ldapsearch
command hangs.

Allocation of a new value for DNA range failed
by Ronald Wimmer
After upgrading to OL 8.1 and replacing all of my 8 IPA servers I ran
into this particular problem.
Is it right that I need to have an ID range where all DNA ranges have to
fit in? And that the DNA range of each IPA server has to be distinct
from the ranges of the other IPA servers?
I will start by checking each IPA server with
ldapsearch -x -D 'cn=Directory Manager' -W -b 'cn=Posix
IDs,cn=Distributed Numeric Assignment Plugin,cn=plugins,cn=config'
(according to what Rob wrote on his blog some years ago
https://rcritten.wordpress.com/2015/01/05/freeipa-and-no-dna-range/ )
Cheers,
Ronald

Replica not renewing IPA certificates
by Roderick Johnstone
Hi
This is freeipa (ipa-server-4.6.5-11.el7_7.3.x86_64) on RHEL7 with
freeipa's own internal CA.
One of my ipa server replicas (host3) has not renewed its IPA system
certificates and is now showing
ca-error: Invalid cookie: u''
in the 'getcert list' output for certificates:
"auditSigningCert cert-pki-ca", "ocspSigningCert cert-pki-ca",
"subsystemCert cert-pki-ca", and the
certificate in the file /var/lib/ipa/ra-agent.pem
As far as I can see, the sequence of events has been as follows:
host3 noticed the certificates needed renewing at 30 Jan 2020 05:37 and
certmonger initiated a renewal.
The state of those certificates went from MONITORING to CA_WORKING but
the certificates were not renewed.
The CA renewal master (host1) noticed its same set of certificates (plus
"Server-Cert cert-pki-ca") needed renewing at 30 Jan 2020 07:28 and
renewed them successfully.
Another replica (host2) noticed that its certificates needed renewing at
30 Jan 2020 07:32 and renewed them successfully.
At 30 Jan 13:37 on host3 the certificates needing to be renewed went
from CA_WORKING back to MONITORING, but 'getcert list' now shows them with:
ca-error: Invalid cookie: u''
and they still haven't renewed.
I haven't seen certmonger attempt to try the renewal again on host3
(nothing from certmonger in /var/log/messages since 30 Jan 13:37).
While I could try a getcert resubmit on host3 to force it to try again,
I'd like to know if what I am seeing is the expected behaviour when a
replica tried to renew certificates before the renewal master.
How long should I have to wait till certmonger on host3 tries again? - I
couldn't find any reference to how often certmonger tries the renewal.
Rob Crittenden's freeipa-healthcheck script is now showing the following
for host3:
ERROR: ipahealthcheck.ipa.certs.IPARAAgent: RA agent description does

Can't reinstate replica from scratch after it was off for 6 months
by Konstantin M. Khankin
Hi!
I run IPA on CentOS 7. I have two servers (Leader and Replica, though they
changed roles couple times because of reinstalls), had ca and domain
services on both of them, replication set up and working. I had to switch
off Replica for 6 months. When I turned it on recently, I found expired
certificates, couldn't fix them easily and lost the old Replica - at least
I concluded it was easier to reinstate the Replica than to detangle the
mess I made while was trying to back out of outdated certs. I hit the same
error as I do now though - Invalid Credentials (49).
So I did the following:
1) on Replica - ipa-server-install --uninstall.
2) on Leader - ipa-replica-manage del --force --clean Replica.
3) removed obsolete replication agreement meToReplica from Leader.
4) removed all traces of Replica from DNS.
Then I started to install Replica from scratch:
1) ipa-client-install
2) ipa-replica-install --setup-ca --setup-dns --forwarder X --forwarder Y
Installation consistently fails with:
'''
Run connection check to master
Connection check OK
Configuring directory server (dirsrv). Estimated time: 30 seconds
<...>
[29/42]: setting up initial replication

"""
I verified clocks on both Replica and Leader - they show the same time
(within 1-2 seconds diff window). In fact, at some point I had Replica
taking time straight from Leader, before they were set up to use the other
common source. I dumped traffic between Leader and Replica - indeed, Leader
tried to authenticate on Replica and Replica replies "Invalid credentials".
I googled this error and read multiple email threads but nothing helped so
far. Replica works fine as IPA client but can't get promoted to a replica.
What am I missing?
Thanks!

Additional to what? Perhaps you need to explain in more details what are
you considering?
Otherwise, https://www.freeipa.org/page/Documentation contains plenty of
information, including links to Red Hat's product documentation for RHEL
IdM. I also suggest to read RHEL Blog articles by Dmitri Pal:
https://www.redhat.com/en/authors/dmitri-pal, they go in detail for
general architecture and considerations of how to deploy RHEL IdM
(FreeIPA).
