Samba on IdM member failure
by Alan Latteri
Hello.
I have setup a test FreeIPA server and client, CentOS 8.3, very minimal, exactly as the documentation. I can successfully mount a Samba shared from ipaclient on MacOS, the first access. But any subsequent share mounting fails until winbind is restarted. Please see this screen capture which explicitly shows the issue.

healthcheck errors
by Prasun Gera
I'm seeing the following two errors on running ipahealthcheck. This is on
an up to date RHEL 8.3 system in a 2 server topology with self signed CA.
DOMAIN.COM IPA CA not found, assuming 3rd party
DOMAIN.COM IPA CA not found, assuming 3rd party

1. This is with a self-signed CA. So I don't know why it has that
assuming 3rd party message.
2. I think this has something to do with the fact
that /etc/pki/pki-tomcat/alias/ has two certs under the nickname
of "caSigningCert cert-pki-ca", (one for each of the masters I presume),
but somehow only 1 cert is tracked in other parts of the
infrastructure. /var/lib/pki/pki-tomcat/ca/conf/CS.cfg lists a single
certificate under ca.signing.cert and there is also a single entry in LDAP
(which is the same as CS.cfg). Is something broken in my setup ?
Thanks,

Ansible vs. ipa-server-install vs. RHEL8
by Dominik Vogt
Problem
-------
A machine has just been installed with a minimal RHEL8.1 distro.
Note that in /etc/login.defs there is the line
UMASK 0077
Installing the server from a shell works fine:
$ umask
0022
$ ipa-server-install <options>
...
OK
However, installing the server through Ansible (2.9.6) from
another host does *not* work.
Snippet from the Ansible script:
...
- name: Install ipa-server
shell: |
/usr/bin/umask 022 && /usr/bin/ipa-server-install <options>
...
=>
The installer complains about the umask being 0077 and that it
should be 0022. Removing the UMASK line from login.defs fixes the
immediate problem. There is really no Ansible configuration
Questions
---------
1) Is there a good way to fix this without opening up system umask?
2) If I comment out the UMASK line from login.defs for the
installation and reactivate it afterwards, will that cause
problems later?
(I think this is about access rights to the certificates of the
builtin dogtag.)
Ciao

Re: Helpo with DNS setup?

Actually, with the --setup-dns option it doesn't. The installer
really does a DNS setup then. But without --setup-dns it
runs into a 30 second timeout, complains a bit but continues
installation.

Helpo with DNS setup?
by Dominik Vogt
Hi folks,
we need to install ipa-server on a box running RHEL8, say
server.foo.bar.baz, 192.168.123.45. ipa-server-install needs
working name resolution for that host, and as there is no other
machine installed yet, this server must run named to provide it.
Is there some working sample configuration for named (RHEL8 config
style) that suffices to install ipa-server (using the --setup-dns
option)?
Ciao

how to create system user account and have it receive a kerberos ticket on boot
by Jelle de Jong
Hello everybody,
1. How can I get machine that is joined as ipa-client recieve a kerberos
ticket for a specific user without storing a password or having to
manually login?
I want to replace this, manual systemd tricker that I currently run:
ExecStart=/usr/bin/bash -c "echo -n "secretpass" | kinit -r 14d -l 7d
service(a)REALM.LAN"
I need the kerberos ticket because I use it to autenticate with
smbclient -k to a samba serve to get access to files.
2. How can I make a system user like the admin account only without
admin rights, but still available with id and getent tools. I need
machine account that holds a kerberos ticket. A normal user shows up
everywhere through LDAP, the admin user does not but is still available
in sssd and other integrations.
Kind regards,
Jelle de Jong

Hi All!
Somebody knows if is possible to add a slave zone declaration in the
integrated DNS Server of FreeIPA? Something similar to standard BIND server
configuration.
Thanks Folks!
