--- Comment #2 from Nicolas Mailhot <nicolas.mailhot(a)laposte.net> ---
Quick review:
1. obligatory rpmlint check:
vl-gothic-fonts.noarch: W: spelling-error %description -l en_US monospace ->
mono space, mono-space, aerospace
vl-gothic-fonts.noarch: W: file-not-utf8
/usr/share/doc/vl-gothic-fonts/README.sazanami
vl-gothic-fonts.src: W: spelling-error %description -l en_US monospace -> mono
space, mono-space, aerospace
vl-gothic-fonts.src:29: W: macro-in-comment %{SOURCE3}
vl-gothic-fonts.src:47: W: macro-in-comment %{SOURCE4}
vl-gothic-fonts.src: W: patch-not-applied Patch0: %{name}-1331050.patch
vl-gothic-fonts.src: W: patch-not-applied Patch1: %{name}-p-1331050.patch
vl-gothic-fonts-all.noarch: W: no-documentation
vl-pgothic-fonts.noarch: W: spelling-error %description -l en_US monospace ->
mono space, mono-space, aerospace
vl-pgothic-fonts.noarch: W: file-not-utf8
/usr/share/doc/vl-pgothic-fonts/README.sazanami
Please remove the commented lines and fix the readmes using %linuxtext or
another method. For the patch part, rpmlint is mistaken, do as you wish
2. font installation check:
$ fc-scan -f
"%{family[0]};%{style[0]};%{fullname[0]};%{width};%{weight};%{slant};%{fontversion};%{file}\n"
/usr/share/fonts/vl*fonts |sort -t ';' -k1,1d -k4,4n -k5,5n -k6,6n -k2,2d
-k7,7dr | uniq | column --separator ';' -t
VL Gothic regular VL Gothic 100 80 0 138936
/usr/share/fonts/vl-gothic-fonts/VL-Gothic-Regular.ttf
VL PGothic regular VL PGothic 100 80 0 138936
/usr/share/fonts/vl-pgothic-fonts/VL-PGothic-Regular.ttf
The regular (minuscule) is certainly unusual and may trip some applications
3. spec comparison against official Fedora templates OK (lots of dead commented
lines that should be removed)
4. since we only ship OpenType font families nowadays, maybe it is not useful
to remind the font family format in Summary and description
5. You have some mixed tab/space indenting in the spec
Otherwise, looks good, thanks for the conversion

Ok, quick review:
1. the spec applies official Fedora font templates
2. you do not strictly need the common_description indirection when generating
a single font package, but it does no wrong either
4. since we only ship OpenType fonts nowadays, maybe it is not useful to remind
the font family format in Summary and description
5. usual rpmlint checking as required in review:
$ rpmlint /srv/rpm/fonts-rpm-macros/hanamin-fonts-20170904.fc33.noarch.rpm
hanamin-fonts.noarch: W: spelling-error %description -l en_US Hanazono ->
Shannon
hanamin-fonts.noarch: W: spelling-error %description -l en_US glyphwiki ->
glyph wiki, glyph-wiki, hieroglyph
hanamin-fonts.noarch: W: wrong-file-end-of-line-encoding
/usr/share/doc/hanamin-fonts/README.txt
hanamin-fonts.noarch: W: wrong-file-end-of-line-encoding
/usr/share/doc/hanamin-fonts/THANKS.txt
Please fix the wrong-file-end-of-line-encoding,warnings using %linuxtext or
any other method
Thanks for the conversion

[Bug 1823637] Terminus fonts broken after
terminus-fonts-4.48-5.fc32.noarch update

Ah, well, my comments are basically based on Peng Wu's comment at comment#2
(which is basically same to Bug#1750891) but it seems not what the original
report claims.
That is because terminus-fonts contains two format and Pango/freetype doesn't
support synthesizing the legacy bitmap fonts for Italic. that's why we wanted
to make it sub-packaged to avoid issues.
We may have two options to fix:
1. Separate packages for both OTB and the legacy bitmap
2. Drop legacy bitmap (at least for rawhide according to new font packaging
guidelines)
3. Disable embolden flag for certain apps
I don't know if 2) is really a good idea for f32 though. anyway, this isn't
something we can deal with fontconfig itself. reassigning back to
terminus-fonts.

There are numerous fantasies about https://www.sexcams.club/ and the impacts it

concerns one may have about the perils of expending entertainment too much.
In an ongoing report, specialists found no connection between

[Bug 1823984] Bold fonts in qt applications appear much too heavy
by bugzilla@redhat.com
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1823984
--- Comment #18 from Hannes Riebl <hriebl(a)posteo.de> ---
Alright, thank you for the update! My assumption was that the metadata should
be the same for the variable and the static versions of the font. But
apparently one needs a PhD in font metadata to understand all this... Anyway,
given that the handling of variable fonts is broken or incomplete (?) in F32,
would it be an option to remove Cantarell-VF.otf from the package for the time
being?

[Bug 1823984] Bold fonts in qt applications appear much too heavy
by bugzilla@redhat.com

--- Comment #17 from Nicolas Mailhot <nicolas.mailhot(a)laposte.net> ---
Cantarell VF is the variable version of Cantarell, it does not use exactly the
same metadata mechanisms as the non variable files (that’s another reason it is
dangerous to rely on metadata mechanisms available in static faces but not
their equivalent, variable instances, because the OpenType spec clearly
envisions using variable instances as direct static replacements in the
future).
Anyway, a lot of things were broken in fontconfig’s handling of variable
instances, a lot (but not all of them) have been fixed upstream, but the result
is not available in Fedora yet (even on my Fedora 33 system). If you want to
test variable handling you should ask Akira for a fontconfig package containing
his latest variable fixes.
Right now IIRC variable instance naming should be fixed upstream, but axis
values are completely broken and inconsistent between variable instances and
static faces.
