Created an attachment (id=363982)

Screenshot for chillu conjuncts
Description of problem:
When chillu conjuncts are followed by any punctuation marks like "!", ".", ",",
"'", "?" or SPACE, ie when a word ends with a chillu conjunct, and followed by
a punctuation mark or a SPACE, using Backspace to delete the punctuation mark
or SPACE results in the deletion of chillu conjunct together with the
punctuation mark/SPACE.
Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
pango 1.26.0-1.fc12 i686
How reproducible:
Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open gedit
2. type any of chillu conjunct, eg: 0D28, 0D4D, 200D
OR
type a word ending with chillu conjunct, eg: 0D05, 0D35, 0D28, 0D4D, 200D
3. type any punctuation marks like "!", ".", ",", "'", "?" or SPACE
4. Press Backspace
Actual results:
When using Backspace after chillu conjunct followed by punctuation mark or
SPACE, instead of deleting punctuation mark or SPACE only, the chillu conjunct
also gets deleted.
Expected results:
When using Backspace after chillu conjunct followed by punctuation mark or
SPACE, only the punctuation mark/SPACE should get deleted.
Additional info:
1. This does not happen when chillu comes in between a word. eg: നന്മ (0D28,
0D28, 0D4D, 200D, 0D2E)
2. This issue is not present in oowriter and kwrite. When above steps are
reproduced, deletions happens in correct order.
Versions used:
libicu-4.2.1-6.fc12 i686
qt-4.5.2-22.fc12 i686
3. Screenshot attached for chillu conjuncts and eg of words with chillu

[Bug 1312500] New: Incorrect rendering (overlapping characters) of
some character combinations involving diacritics(?)
by Red Hat Bugzilla
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1312500
Bug ID: 1312500
Summary: Incorrect rendering (overlapping characters) of some
character combinations involving diacritics(?)
Product: Fedora
Version: rawhide
Component: abattis-cantarell-fonts
Severity: high
Assignee: ccecchi(a)redhat.com
Reporter: awilliam(a)redhat.com
QA Contact: extras-qa(a)fedoraproject.org
CC: ccecchi(a)redhat.com, fonts-bugs(a)lists.fedoraproject.org
So we'll need to do a bit more triage on this one, but I'm busy right now so
just want to file it. Today's openQA French install test for Rawhide failed.
The failure seems to be caused by some messed-up rendering of particular
character combinations. Here's the failed step:
https://openqa.fedoraproject.org/tests/6079/modules/_do_install_and_reboo...
Note the incorrect rendering of the message above the "Redémarrer" (reboot)
button, which is:
"Fedora est maintenant installé avec succès et est prêt à être utilisé !"
This text contains the two character sequence "êt" twice, and both times, it is
incorrectly rendered - the characters are overlapped.
A similar issue can be observed on the main hub:
https://openqa.fedoraproject.org/tests/6079/modules/disk_guided_empty/ste...
with the text "NOM D'HÔTE ET RÉSEAU" - the ÔT sequence is similarly incorrectly
rendered.
As I'm writing this bug report, I've become pretty sure the bug is in
Cantarell. If I paste the text êt into gedit (where my font is DejaVu Sans
Mono) it renders fine. If I then change gedit's font to Cantarell it displays
incorrectly (overlapped, like in the screenshots). If I change to another
proportional font it also renders fine. So this seems like an error in
cantarell. It also affects â and ô and ü and Ô and a few others, but not î or
û. In gucharmap the affected characters actually display off-centre within the
boxes in the character table, so you can see which characters are affected
quite easily. Basically it seems like these characters are not correctly placed
in the glyph grid or whatever it's called - they're nearly a whole character's
width to the right of where they should be.
