Summary: [ro] Fonts in distribution contains incorrect glyphs for Romanian language
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=448289
------- Additional Comments From razvan.sandu(a)mobexpert.ro 2008-05-28 14:01 EST -------
Sorry, maybe I've generated the PDF in a wrong way (because the patch for the
keyboard is not in Fedora yet).
However, the base problem remains:
When the patch for the keyboard will be included in Fedora, Romanian writers
will want to insert the correct glyphs in their documents, i.e. the comma-below
characters. And the majority of fonts I've seend don't have these.
Also:
- (scenario 1) at install time, if Romanian language is selected during
installation, anaconda should use a default system font which has the correct
Romanian glyphs (in /etc/sysconfig/i18n).
- (scenario 2) after installation, if system-config-language is used to switch
to Romanian language (from whatever language was used before),
system-config-language should set a font that contains the correct Romanian
glyphs (comma-below).
Regards,
Răzvan

Having more than the four traditional styles is a feature described in the
OpenType specification, see http://www.microsoft.com/OpenType/OTSpec/name.htm:
“For historical reasons, font families have contained a maximum of four
styles, but font designers may group more than four fonts to a single family.
The Preferred Family allows font designers to include the preferred family
grouping which contains more than four fonts. This ID is only present if it is
different from ID 1.”
Many fonts use this feature.

The comment here no longer reflects reality, since we're not finding the
nearest multiple of 96 any more. Dunno if anyone cares about that?
Vlad believes that we should #ifdef MOZ_WIDGET_GTK2 around this and return
other platforms to their behaviour from before this change, to remedy bug
434157. I have no reason to disagree.

Actually I was wrong: well it seems ok for Japanese for me,
but in Chinese locale zh_CN.UTF-8 I still see the problem.
