Hello everyone,
My name is Asmit Malakannawar, and I am a Product Designer at Tuist GmbH. I recently graduated in June 2024 and have been contributing to free and open-source software (FOSS) since my second year of college. Currently, I reside in India, but I will soon be relocating to Germany for work.
I am passionate about open source and began my journey with the GNOME Foundation through the Google Summer of Code program in 2022. Since then, I’ve been involved in several open-source communities, helping with design and community operations. At GNOME, I currently contribute by assisting with design, organizing events, and supporting the committee with travel requests.
I am a new contributor to Fedora and am excited to learn more about this community. I first heard about Fedora and its initiatives at GNOME Asia 2024.
My background spans design, community operations, marketing, and event organization. If you’d like to know more about me or my work, feel free to check out my portfolio: https://www.asmitbm.me/.
I have been involved in product design for the past two years and have contributed to various open-source organizations, including Weaviate, conda-forge, GNOME Foundation, and the ORAS Project, focusing on design and documentation. Open source has played a crucial role in my career growth, and I’m proud to work for an open-source company now.
My workstation runs both macOS and Linux. I began my journey in front-end development, so I have experience with technologies like JavaScript, CSS, and HTML, and I’ve worked with frameworks such as Next.js. Currently, I’m also exploring the Phoenix framework. For design tasks, I primarily use Figma and Penpot. Additionally, I’m proficient with Git, which I use daily.
While I’m familiar with using mailing lists, I prefer modern communication platforms like Matrix. Previously, I have also moderated communication channels for the GNOME Foundation.
For volunteering, I am looking to contribute around 6–10 hours a week. I’ve already joined the relevant Matrix channels and am excited to bring my skills to the Fedora Project.
Looking forward to collaborating with you all!
Best regards, Asmit Malakannawar
