Hi Nikhil,
Welcome to the Fedora community!
I am a regular user of fedora and I would like to join the fedora
project. I have basic knowledge of C, C++ and Java (in case that may be
necessary).
Fedora is "downstream" to free and open source software, in the sense
that, we take open source software, build it to work well, and build a
linux "distribution". Therefore, we don't write applications ourselves,
unless it's necessary for a particular purpose, for example, for
infrastructure (bodhi etc.)
So, if you're interested in submitting patches to projects, you should
look "upstream". You can help by submitting patches to fedora too, since
we push these upstream anyway. There are some "easyfix" bugs that you
might help with[1]
Knowledge of programming comes in handy if you want to maintain some
packages for fedora users. More information here[2]
This is the first project that I would like to contribute to, in
other
words, i do not have previous experience contributing to any open
source project.
That's OK. You need to start some place ;)
My interests are:
- programming
I've already covered this case above.
- web development
We have the insight project going on. You could see if it suits your
knowledge[3]
or perhaps i could help with bugs.
Everyone can help with bugs. Join the QA team today, and get started![4]
I hope you enjoy yourself and learn in the process too. If you have any
doubts, please ask people. They're always willing to help new comers.
