Hello everyone,
My name is Merlin Dust, and I'm a Linux OS R&D Engineer. My work primarily focuses on the installation and boot process, as well as ISO creation.
Technical Skills:
I'm proficient in Python3 and Shell scripting. I've recently learned Ansible and find it incredibly powerful. In my daily work, I can use Koji and Pungi to create ISOs. I'm also skilled in RPM packaging, familiar with common Linux commands, and use Git for version control.
My Open Source Experience:
My first step into open source was with the GNOME community, where I submitted a patch for a mnemonic translation issue via an issue tracker (I initially mistook it for a PR!). Despite that, the sense of participation was thrilling.
Later, I successfully submitted a bug fix for Anaconda. Seeing my name in the changelog was an indescribable achievement.
Recently, I've been contributing Chinese translations to tldr-pages. I've also noticed a lack of detailed official documentation for the koji command. I'm currently preparing PRs for this and have set up my own Koji instance for testing, which has opened up even more learning opportunities. If anyone is interested, I welcome collaboration on koji-related PRs!
Background & My System:
I run a custom GNU/Linux distribution that I've built and packaged from scratch to meet my professional needs, and I'm continuously refining it. My professional background involves working with systems initially derived from recompiling CentOS, which is how I learned about Fedora. In 2025, I gained a deep understanding of the full OS development lifecycle by participating in RPM packaging and version planning for upstream communities like OpenAnolis/OpenEuler, applying DevOps practices to system integration.
Interest in Fedora & How to Connect:
I joined the Infrastructure chat yesterday. As MatH mentioned, they are all very busy. I saw the lively discussions late into the night (in my timezone), and I really admire the collaborative problem-solving atmosphere—it's something I truly enjoy.
I'm interested in contributing to infrastructure-related tasks or maintaining some software packages that I find interesting, though I'm not entirely sure where to start yet.
In terms of communication, I'm subscribed to the mailing lists (though I haven't posted yet) and am active on Matrix.
I'm also about to become a contributor with review permissions in the tldr-pages community.
Please excuse my English; I hope I've made myself clear. If anything is unclear, please let me know. Additionally, I believe contributing to the community will be a great way for me to practice my English.
I look forward to collaborating with you all!
