Hello Fedora Claudio Marcial's introduction.
by Claudio Marcial Peon
Hey Folks.
I was exploring how to contribute with the project, and I saw this mailing
list.
Not sure if I need to open an issue by myself in pagure, so just in case I
didn't.
Some introduction:
My name is Claudio and I'm currently living in Switzerland. Some more
details:
-
your experience with Free/Open Source Software (FOSS)
communities/ecosystems:
- I've been a FOSS user all my life, but I have never contributed
directly to any project. I'm planning to change that, and that's why i'm
here.
-
your background/skills, for example:
- I have worked in the CyberSecurity Industry for 20 years now.
- My first linux was Slackware 8, but I have used almost every
mainstream distribution that has crossed my desk (Redhat 7,
Debian, Ubuntu,
Opensuse Arch, etc). Im currently on Fedora
- I'm fluent in English, and Spanish.
- Coding skills include Python, Go, and im beginning to look at Rust.
I would like to contribute to maintaining some packages but I have no
previous experience on that matter.
- I also have experience in server administration.
-
your experience in communication platforms:
- I have used mailing-lists all my life, and I'm also active in
Telegram, Matrix or Discord.
- I would prefer to use Matrix as Real time platform.
- I have experience moderating IRC and Telegram channels, and also in
the past some forums related to technology.
- My current expectation is to be able to contribute around 4 hours a
week.
Looking forward to contributing!

Hello Fedora Trevor Benson's introduction
by TREVOR BENSON
### Experience with Free/Open Source Software (FOSS) communities/ecosystems
* I have contributed to FOSS projects previosly, including sosreport and a few others.
* I see myself as an active FOSS community member and intend to participate/contribute as time allows, hopefully with an increased focus on more active participation as time permits.
### Background
My first Linux distribution was Red Hat Halloween and then Mothers day releases. I purchased the box set RH 5.2 to run on my home workstation instead of Windows 95, and replaced Linksys firewalls with it using ipchains, and later iptables. I also ran RH 7-9 on both desktop & laptops.
I migrated back to using Linux recently on both laptop and desktop around Fedora 30 release. Fedora has been my main distribution for personal use ever since. Red Hat Enterprise Linux (or Rocky Linux) are my primary distributions for work & professional use.
### Skills
For Enterprise Linux ecosystem I started to administer RHEL (and CentOS) around RHEL 3.x.
I have held RHCE certifications for multiple RHEL versions, as well as multiple specializations, but I never get enough specializations within 3 years to finish the architect cert before something expires. I have also held multiple MCPs (although I don't claim them anymore), the LPIC, and multiple VMware VCPs. Trained on Cisco and managed switches and routers and worked with many teams designing and deploying physical/virtual infrastructure stacks in the datacenter.
I dabble in image editing with Gimp and a few other none FOSS toos, but just a bit. I also dabble lightly with languages, just enough to read some Spanish and French, before falling back to translating the last parts to confirm if I was tracking the conversation. Never get enough practice to keep up with native speakers or hold a conversation.
I love to program in Python and am looking forward to writing Pythonic code and compiling it via Mojo using MLIR. I have deployed and used multiple version control systems, but none as much as I use and enjoy git, including playing the **OhMyGit!** games levels. I review it again every so often and have looked into making some new levels.
When I create containers they are almost always from the EL ecosystem using RHEL UBI or Rocky Linux, occasionally from Alpine or scratch, but rarely if ever Debian or Ubuntu.
### Experience with communications platforms
I have used mailing lists, although I tend to be a reader of them more than actively use them.
#### Real time chat platforms:
* New to Matrix, like it quite a bit
* daily Slack user
* occasional Mattermost user
* reluctant Telegram & Discord user
### Volunteering time
At least 2 hours and some weeks up to 8 hours. As time permits I plan to contribute more than 8 hours per week. However, this would probably be limited by contributions to other community based and FOSS projects I am involved in and work schedule.

Hello Fedora Aaron Linder's introduction
by Aaron Linder
Hello,
My name is Aaron Linder, I am a recent MSc graduate from Winston-Salem State University. My interest in computers starts very young my father had a computer at home in the early 1980's (a self assembled apple II + ), at any rate. Our original computers had a much less toxic environment, while I do have a windows (Becuase Corsair iCUE will not allow linux native) and a M2 apple machine, which I have installed Fedora on.
At any rate I first installed linux without a GUI headless in the year 2000 but I didn't know how to use linux very well. It was many years later I began using it, using different distros, such as Ubuntu, and Xubuntu becuase my machines were too slow to run windows.
I first heard of Fedora from a gaming lady friend in black desert she used it for school work in meteorology research. My first experience with Fedora specifically was Asahi Linux remix and how it can plug into my Apple M2 ARM system.
my SWE proficiencies are in:
Java, Python, PhP, Coldfusion, and Rust. I need more contribution on projects outside of python. This is why linux is a developer friendly environment and I am really impressed with this distribution and I read recently, that Fedora wants to be the paramount ML Linux distribution. So I spent 2 years of my life in the evening studying AI/ML from NC-state have two certifications in AI and ML as a data scientist and AI associate from NC State.
I haven't worked off of mailing lists that much outside of github, I am on matrix, or telegram, and my volunteering hours depends on the project. I have worked about 14 projects for a startup called Omdena AI, which does grassroots AI projects, and it's mostly in python but the skill level of the other developers isn't great enough to facilitate too indepth of projects (I am a chapter leader at Omdena AI), so I try to choose projects of medium difficulty.
Fedora's teams are much more advanced from what I can see and I am interested in working with some new technologies.
I am also working as engineering sales for a Punjabi based studio called Sifars, however I am not a contributor at that corporation so I feel as I need to keep contributing on software myself, so this is a good outlet for that.
Fedora seems really exiting as it's US based company, Ubuntu is mostly centered in the UK which is too far away for collaboration at times. This is a more NA based collaboration center for SW, and depending on how deep a project is, It is possible for me to sit there and code for 15 hours a day but I typically take breaks and stuff and it's not good for my health to work that many hours.
Anyways you guys have a nice week and looking foward to examining some projects to contribute towards!
If you would like to see some of my previous ML projects, it's here @ https://aaronclinderportfolio.blogspot.com

Hello Fedora
by Edwin Buck
I'm Edwin Buck, a Fedora User since Fedora Core 1 and a Linux user since
Slackware first started offering its distro on floppy disks.
Linux has been my daily driver for decades now and Fedora is my distro of
choice. I've been working on UNIX / Linux professionally since 1997, and
using it at home since 1993. I've held various jobs over the years, mostly
keeping abreast of computer trends. I grew up in the Apple ][+ age, which
I learned BASIC, eventually buying an IBM PC (5150) and learning how to
program it in PASCAL. Since then I've had a love of learning new
programming languages, and have developed software in quite a few (with the
exception of C#).
I enjoy CI/CD systems, Kubernetes, data engineering, Hadoop, Apache Spark,
Java Swing, JVM internals, and occasionally writing a toy language. I
currently work for HPE in their Professional Services department,
supporting Ezmeral software and custom integrations.
I'm currently looking to contribute a git of golang RPM packaging for an
open source product, SPIRE (SPIFFE/SPIRE). On Wednesdays, I head up the
Houston Linux User's Group meetings, which I've been doing for nearly two
decades.
Cheers,
Edwin
