That's a good way to contribute. The Ambassadors programme is currently
undergoing some restructuring, so the sponsorship process etc. is not
really active there.
> I can't edit my wiki page since it says "cla+1" and can't even login

Yes---unfortunately we got far too much spam on the wiki and had to
resort to this to keep it in check.
Ah, what they meant in #fedora-india was to get in touch with the Join
SIG, not join it. The Join SIG is working on a new process for
newcomers. It'll be up in a week or two. You can read about it here:
https://lists.fedoraproject.org/archives/list/fedora-join@lists.fedoraproje…
If you can please subscribe to the mailing list also and introduce
yourself there, we can help you get started with whatever you'd like to
do in Fedora.
Before I finish, a few points to note:
- You do not need to be in any FAS groups to be able to speak about
Fedora or Free/Open Source philosophy. You don't need to be an
Ambassador either.
- Next, Ambassadors specifically are seasoned contributors who have
worked in different parts of Fedora and know enough to be able to go
and speak about Fedora---not just spread the word about the OS but
actually speak about what is going on *inside* Fedora: what is new,
what processes are changing, what new software are we looking at, and
so on.
So, before applying to be an Ambassador, we strongly suggest that
people work in the community for a bit to learn what is going on.
So, what I would suggest is that you subscribe to a few mailing lists
(the Join SIG mailing list first if you're unsure of which ones to
join), see what is going on, talk to people and get to know the
community first. There's plenty of time to go attend events and spread
the word. :)

Hello,
Currently, when newcomers come to Fedora and look to join the project,
we have a task-oriented system. We tend to say "Find something to do,
get started---ask for help when you need to!"
Sometimes this works, sometimes it doesn't. It's a passive, task
oriented model. Some tasks require newcomers to learn quite a few tools
and skills. While newcomers do meet other Fedora contributors, the focus
here is on using the task to become a part of Fedora.
We thought we could try a new people-centric approach.
Fedora is not the OS. Fedora is the people. The OS and all the cool
deliverables we produce are merely means to achieve our goal---promoting
Free and Open Source Software.
So, in this new system, when newcomers come to Fedora, we try to get
them to meet the people first. Once they've met the people and become
part of the Fedora community, we help them learn the skills and
contribute to our deliverables.
We discussed this with the Mindshare team and got positive feedback so
we're now putting this in motion:
https://pagure.io/mindshare/issue/147
Here are the implementation details:
- Newcomers will be directed to a page like this:
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Welcome
- We'll encourage them to come and speak to people in the Fedora-Join
channels.
- We'll help them create an FAS account if they don't have one yet.
- We'll file a ticket for them here:
https://pagure.io/fedora-join/Welcome-to-Fedora
- We'll help them explore Fedora, learn what tools and processes we use.
- If needed, we'll add them to a FAS group temporarily so that they can
edit the wiki etc.
- We'll keep in touch with them regularly using the ticket to see where
we can help.
The final idea is that over time as they get comfortable with the
people, and infrastructure that we use, they will find something that
interests them and also contribute to our goal.
The system will not be perfect right from the start---we'll keep
tweaking it as we go. Feedback is welcome. If you want to help, please
reply to this e-mail and we'll find you something to do ;)
Tickets filed for this:
- https://pagure.io/fedora-join/Fedora-Join/issue/161
- https://pagure.io/fedora-join/Fedora-Join/issue/162

I've already upgraded to F31 and it went flawlessly, but we'll be more
confident of the upgrade if it's tested by more people. If you are on
Fedora 29/Fedora 30, please consider testing the upgrade.

Thanks for your e-mail---that's great to hear. The Join SIG FAS group is
specifically meant for seasoned community volunteers who can help new
contributors learn and so become part of the Fedora community.
From your account information, I see that you are relatively new and not
part of any Fedora SIGs/teams at the moment. So, you don't quite fit the
role just yet.
What would your interests be---how can we help you become an integral
part of the Fedora community? :)

The new version of Gnome is being tested out for those who may be

Hello!
Here's another note that some may find interesting:
https://communityblog.fedoraproject.org/friday-with-infra/
You will meet the infrastructure team online, discuss and learn how
these tools work. The idea is that you'll learn enough to "own" the
tools and run then for the community!!

- badge design
- ticket triage
- updating style guide
- revising current badges that are incorrectly sized or could use some love
- brainstorming
- review and update wiki if needed
- review and update docs page if needed
I will be around roughly during the following times, and you’re welcome to message me on telegram as well :)
