I updated the draft on the package request email/notification on the wiki. Thus far, while looking at our Contributor Status[2] page, we are unable to determine if you are planning to build your packages for EPEL. If you are interested in building, please follow the Branching Procedure[3] for EPEL. If you maintain several packages (> 2) you can also use a scripted branching method (all packages from a contributor) by using the Scripted Branch Process[4]. If you are not interested in EPEL or don't feel like you have the time to put your packages into EPEL, the EPEL project would like to request that a co-maintainer who is a part of EPEL be added to your packages. To do this, please follow the co-maintainer process[5]. We appreciate your help in readying EPEL for official launch soon. viewvc package

At one point during the package review process there was some discussion about viewvc being part of EPEL and the spec has been crafted to enable such things. Any chance this package actually goes in? Request: Add an additonal tag to package names

Hello, I would request to add an addtional tag like "epel" to the packagename for easier differ where which package came from. At the moment there is no way to differ if a package is a package from the distribution or if it comes from epel repo. -- Heiko Adams <heiko.adams(a)gmx.de>

excludearch trackers?

I've got a package in EPEL that I have to ExcludeArch (gnucash, EPEL4, x86_64). While my reason isn't the normal reason for doing it (see bug #203761), I was wondering - do we want separate ExcludeArch tracking bugs for EPEL, or should we just piggyback on the Fedora ones? Bill

Readme.fedora files in EPEL

Should README.fedora files be ranamed in EPEL? It probably isn't too big of a deal, but I was looking through a package and wondered. Also, in the case of some PHP packages, in RHEL 5, php provides a directory called /usr/share/php and then non-pear php apps can use /usr/share/php/whatever for their content. In EL 4, no such dir exists. Should we create a package that provides /usr/share/php, or relocate the packages on EL4? stahnma

Proposal for final repolayout

Hi, seems we need koji modification to use bodhi, which likely itself might need some adjustments for proper EPEL support as well. Both things will take time to get realized as it seems other work is higher on peoples todo list atm. So I'd say EPEL should for the near future plan to continue to use plague together with the old Fedora Extras push scripts until we can switch to koji and bodhi; otherwise it might take a long time until we are ready to announce EPEL officially, which I'd like to avoid We just should make sure the repo layout is sane for the near future and can be used with bodihi later as well (Luke, that's why you are in the CC of this mail; if there is anything that would be hard to realize in bodihi let us know please). I'd like to propose round about this layout below http://redhat.download.fedoraproject.org/pub/epel/ stable/ 4/ -> 4.(current_version()) 4.1/ ... 4.5/ 5/ -> 5.(current_version()) 5.1/ ... testing/ 4/ 5/ rolling/ 4/ -> 4.(current_version()) 4.1/ ... 5/ -> 5.(current_version()) 5.1/ ... We currently have symbolic links from "4{AS,WS,ES}" to "4" and "5{Client,Server}" to "5" on the server as well; they should be there in the future as well, but I left them out of this scheme to not make things even more complicated to understand. Please ignore the "rolling" stuff as well; it seems some people would like to have a more "Fedora Extras" like EPEL with a bold update policy (always latest and greatest). I'd like to leave the path for this open in the long term, that why I'd say we should put the current EPEL stuff below "stable". How to realize the layout: have two different plague-targets per release; the default target is "testing/(release())"; that repo becomes the stable release automatically when RH ships a new quarterly update. If you want to get something into the stable repo for the current release use a special build target, from which the extras-push-scripts push into the proper dir directly. Comments? CU thl

While discussing the repo layout stuff in the meeting today we were talking about what we'd like to do vs what we can do. And while we're headed to a bodhi/koji updates-testing system MHO is that it will likely be months before that is ready, it's simply an issue of time and not enough workers (though _blah_ may have volunteered, if so please come forward on the list :) So the question at hand is, do we wait for these tools, or try to do the best with what we've got knowing that we have a long term plan. After all, many of us have been using EPEL for a couple of months already. -Mike

Results of LinuxTag Meetings?

Hi, Folks, Last I had heard, several people from EPEL, CentOS, and the other repos were going to meet at LinuxTag to see if meeting in person would help resolve some of the confusion, misunderstandings, mistrust, and other issues that haven't seemed to be resolvable via e-mail/IRC. How did those meetings go? Were any conclusions reached? From last week's steering committee meeting transcript, it sounds like the whole repotags issue appears to be moving ahead, which seems like a good step forward. Can we look forward to better relations between EPEL and the other repos on other fronts as well? Thanks! Hi! I'd like to get the repotags issue of the table. The Steering Committee talked about it, but no consensus could be found. But I'd really find some agreement tomorrow to get things moving again. So I'd suggest we put this up for voting: ---- == Proposal for the use of repotags for EPEL == The EPEL Steering Committee hereby issues that it wants to use a ".epel" repotag for all newly build packages in the EPEL repositories for EL4 and EL5. We hereby like to ask the Packaging Committee to bless the use of repotags for EPEL. If such a blessing occurred we'd further kindly ask the Packaging Committee for suggestions how to technical realize repotags in EPEL. The EPEL steering committee is of course willing to help with that; the EPEL Steering Committee receives the right to veto the technical solution from the Packaging Committee, but expects not to use that veto right.. ---- EOF Can we agree on this?
