Inconvenient? Deleting 10's of SPAM every day is *more* inconvenient.
That is totally automatic. You don't even see the SPAM because the mail
server can easily filter it out. At least I have never seen any spam to
the list.

important to the elfutils discussion - those who are subscribed and take the 5 seconds to
get subscribed, or random strangers who are too lazy to subscribe?
I think you aren't seeing the bigger picture. It isn't total strangers,
it is just people who don't want to or can subscribe to each and every
mailinglist just to have a quick conversation with the other hackers.
As has been mentioned, there is no mailserver administrator within
reach who can do this.
There is however a list admin who can set the list to subscriber-only.
Or maybe we should move the mailinglist then in that case to a setup
where things can be setup with automagic spam filtering.
