Hi,
I checked our installation guide today and was a bit surprised/disappointed.
What I expected was a step by step guide (like a getting started) and found a very detailed and over-complicated installation guide that goes into a lot of detailed options of anaconda options that (using and installing Fedora on various machines for a while now) basically never needed.
I think it's good to have all these options explained, but I think that it's probably easier to move these option explanations to sub-pages instead of having them in the main document, which I would expect to be very straight forward.
Also, when I click the link to the installation guide on the download page on https://getfedora.org the first thing that greets me is a explanation, that this is the guide about how to install Fedora and that it can be automated, etc. followed by a bunch of legal information, end of page.
That's pretty much everything but helpful when someone wants to install Fedora Workstation on their machine.
I'm willing to compose a (hopefully) more straight forward installation guide, if there isn't someone else who already does that.
Basic idea: Just getting through a installation with an empty disk and document this with screenshots. Along with that adding some descriptions, which should help these pictures. Starting by the boot process to the User login.
An external, linked, document should also provide guidance for Fedora Media Writer, if this guide doesn't already exists (the basics exist but Windows as well as Linux are mixed on one page, and this doesn't seem to be much sense to me from an end user perspective. Should may be split into two documents as well)
So what do you think? Agreement, disagreement? Critics are welcome :)
I would be personally in favour of this change. Having a guide that would just walk you through the installation, and maybe pointing you to the advanced stuff on the way? I think that would be a good way to go.
I think we should coordinate this with Petr Bokoc (CCd) who is (I believe) taking care of the content. I'm here just to make sure the site is building correctly. :-)
Cheers! Adam

It is difficult to contribute when the only access to the community is by chat. I am rarely around the computer at such times. So far, I must agree with Sheogorath. The install guide needs to be partitioned into parts vis-- getting started, and then as a reference. The getting started could begin with the download of Fedora and creation of the iso, then a walk through for the installation for the desktop user. The latter part of the install guide would cover reference material, such as exception cases and information about server installation, networking configuraitons and the like. The install guide should be a friendly document, not "dry".
And by the way, I do offer to proof read anything that any of you write for the docs.

Hi, I agree that the Install Guide is too long in its current state and we're missing some kind of easy step by step directions. There used to be a quick start guide that was built from a subset of the Install Guide sources and was much shorter, but that was difficult to maintain (you had to keep thinking of two books every time you were making changes), so we ended up dropping it. It would be nice to have it back, but as a separate document, without trying to build it from the "big" install guide's sources.
Contributions are welcome, of course. How do you want to do it, can you submit a PR of a book into a pagure repo, or would you prefer to send me something in the mail that I can mark up and publish online for you?
Petr
