Hi Sandra
FYI, I am a grandfather. For the forums that I frequent, (Fedora, and various others), we don't tolerate abusive or sexist language. These forums have rules posted, that must be read as a condition of joining the forum.
When such activities have occurred, a warning is issued to the offender, and there is no second or third chance given. That individual is blacklisted. His offending postings are purged.
In general, 99.9% of "Linux" users are polite and respectful.
Its the forum's admin to enforce civility.
Regards
Leslie

Interesting blog post! Alas, following the link trail gets to an evaluation of opensource code of conduct, and Fedora doesn't particularly shine in that list:
(fwiw - didn't evaluate the accuracy of that list, just noted where Fedora showed up).
