Release Notes XML Conversion
by John J. McDonough
I am currently converting the wiki to Publican. If you make changes to
the beats please also make them in git (or advise me of what you
changed).
If you would like to help, I have put all the mw-render output into git
- the files that haven't been cleaned up yet are commented out in
Release_Notes.xml. I am updating git frequently but still it would be
worth keeping in sync on IRC if you wish to help.
mw-render seems to put more trash in the XML than I remember, so even on
the first conversion it might be easier to just cut and paste. Hard to
tell. On larger, more repetitive beats, edit replaces are still pretty
quick, but there is a lot to delete.
There are still a few steps to complete on the branch, so read the
warning in the f14 branch before playing there.

Introducing /me /nick tzk_
by Tezcatl Franco
Hello, Fedora contributors.
My name is Jesús Franco and i'm user of Fedora since a year ago, and
Linux systems since 2006. I tried before with Knoppix and
Ubuntu-derivatives, Gentoo and Ututo but Fedora has proven to be the
most flexible, easy but powerful and stable i've tried so far. It runs
on our netbooks, and the family desktop (a fairly old Pentium3 @133MHz
with just 256 MB RAM)
I work as mentor at an k12 school in a suburb of Mexico City, but
another ocasion i'll share my experiences on education with FLOSS. At
this very moment i'm working with xoti.edusol.info webmasters writing
the course materials for an introduction to free software using
distros Ubuntu and Fedora in media classrooms ran by voluntaries.
I need to join Documentation Project in order to contribute
documentation about Desktop Environments for thin clients like LXDE
which is the preferred for old hardware. Right now, i'm going to begin
an alpha guide to Fedora with LXDE. *Later*, i'd like to write guides to
Fedora for absolutely new users, not just in freesoftware or linux,
but completely illiteracy on ICT's. You can see a draft of the
methodology i'm thinking on here:
http://proyectofedora.org/wiki/AlfabetizacionTicAdultos
Before my discovery of Fedora, i worked with adult people and kids on
social centres spreading freesoftware, and i've contributed as
translator for riseup.net and more specifically its software for
socialnetworks crabgrass.riseup.net In the wiki of Fedora Latam you
can see a page about my previous experience working on teaching ICT's
with Linux.
So, i think it's a lot to learn before starting a shared project like
that, and i'm going to watch the dynamic of the contributors for a
while. Meanwhile, i just wanted to drop this few lines in order to
reach new friends.
Jah blessings.

I have reviewed some bad links, that were present in the draft,

the most were already fine :-)

Invite only status for docs
by Nick Bebout
FAS was just upgraded to allow invite-only status for groups. This
eliminates the queue of people that apply to a lot of groups that no one
ever hears from. docs-writers and docs-publishers were set to invite
only, per decision of last week's docs team meeting. They have a note set
on the page that normally lets you apply that tells you to email this list
if you want to join.
The question is, do we want to set the docs group this way too?

A reminder about beta release notes
by John J. McDonough
In the past, the beta release notes have only included U.S. English.
However, a number of teams have indicated they would like to see their
translation included. Some have even indicated they would like partial
translations in the beta rpm.
We will make the beta rpm on Monday, September 13. Any translations
over 90% I will include in the rpm. If you would like a less complete
translation included, or if you would rather not have a translation less
than 100% included, post to the docs list or notify me directly by email
to that effect. (I get the trans list in digest, so it is easy to miss
things).
Remember, Monday, September 13 for beta.
Thanks

Release Notes Draft
by John J. McDonough
The wiki has been converted and a draft of the release notes is
available at
http://jjmcd.fedorapeople.org/Download/Release_Notes/
for your review. The sources are up to date in git, but the translation
branch is not yet complete. I will go ahead and do that this afternoon.
If you could review your beat promptly that would be a help. This
evening we are due to send the first POTs to L10N and we should
stabilize them by tomorrow, so any edits should be made promptly.
A number of beats were blank, and some of them probably should be, but I
left them in the document for now as a reminder in case you are aware of
something that is missing. I will get rid of them tomorrow.
Beginning tonight I will start the nightly build, and all the languages,
initially partially or not at all translated, will begin appearing in
http://fedorapeople.org/groups/docs/release-notes/
Thank you all for your hard work!

Let's make sure this gets CC'd to the Docs list, please.
