Mallard review meeting
by Shaun McCance
Hi folks,
The GNOME documentation team is going to have a Mallard review
session this sunday at 17:00 UTC. I don't know how much members
of the Fedora documentation team have worked with Mallard, but
since our work upstream affects you, I'd like to invite anybody
who's interested to stop by.
Here's the wiki page for the meeting:
http://live.gnome.org/DocumentationProject/Meeting20090823
And here's the latest build of the Mallard specification:
http://www.gnome.org/~shaunm/mallard/spec.html
The text of the specification is not complete in many places,
but we want to focus on the content model for this meeting.
Basically, we're looking for things that might cause problems
that we can't fix in a backwards-compatible way after we've
started shipping Mallard documents.
If you can't attend the meeting but still have input, please
send it to the gnome-doc-list(a)gnome.org mailing list.
Feel free to contact me with any questions.

Fedora 12 Alpha release notes: TODO
by Rahul Sundaram
Hi,
I see a lot of discussions/meetings etc but not not enough people
editing the release notes to generate actual content.
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Fedora_12_Alpha_release_notes
If you want to help, the following things would be good to add:
* Screenshot of NM broadband wizard
* Replace the GNOME Volume screenshot with one taken with the default
Fedora GNOME theme
* Attach the Ogg Video of Plymouth bootup to the relevant section
* Expand the PackageKit section with more details. Take a Ogg Theora
Video of PackageKit command line plugin in action.
* Add details on Empathy - protocols, feature esp in comparison to
Pidgin and missing features that are planned to be filled in before the
general release. Would help set expectations.

License change in all Guides
by Eric Christensen
As we have been discussing for the past month or so, we are working to
change our documentation license from OPL to CC-BY-SA 3.0. Please let
me know, no later than 25 August 2009, if there is any problem with
changing your guide over to the new CC license.

[Fwd: Fw: License Change... Publican]
by Pam Chestek
Sorry I didn't respond to this sooner. As Richard suggests, we should
make sure that the copyright license doesn't inadvertently extend to
permit the use of the trademarks. My suggestion would be something like:
The text and illustrations of this document are licensed under a
Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 Unported license. FEDORA and
the Fedora Infinity Design logo are trademarks of Red Hat, Inc.,
registered in the U.S. and other countries. For guidelines on the
permitted uses of the Fedora trademarks go to [link]. All other
trademarks are the property of their respective owners.
I also point out that the current notice on the Fedora documentation
says "All other trademarks /and copyrights/ referred to are the property
of their respective owners." To me, mentioning that there might be
other copyright owners in the notice only creates questions, because it
might cause a downstream user to wonder whether the CC license applies
to the entire work. Assuming we don't have anything that can't be
licensed CC-BY-SA, then we should eliminate the confusion (and if we do
have stuff that can't be licensed that way, then we have bigger problems).

I would recommend changing the text further than that. That language is
taken directly from the OPL:
Proper form for an incorporation by reference is as follows:
Copyright (c) <year> by <author's name or designee>. This material
may be distributed only subject to the terms and conditions set forth
in the Open Publication License, vX.Y or later (the latest version is
presently available at http://www.opencontent.org/openpub/).
My recommendation:
This document is licensed under a Creative Commons
Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 Unported license.
That can probably be improved on. Also, you may wish to specify how
you want attribution to be given.
As a separate note, but raised in my mind because of this license
change, perhaps the subsequent reference to Fedora trademarks in this
Publican legal boilerplate should be accompanied by a pointer to the
Fedora trademark guidelines (to clarify that the stylized Fedora mark
and the Fedora infinity logo aren't themselves being licensed under
CC-BY-SA).

[Bug 515190] New: Segmentation fault while executing smbclient command in Fedora 9 32 Bit
by Red Hat Bugzilla
Please do not reply directly to this email. All additional
comments should be made in the comments box of this bug.
Summary: Segmentation fault while executing smbclient command in Fedora 9 32 Bit
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=515190
Summary: Segmentation fault while executing smbclient command
in Fedora 9 32 Bit
Product: Fedora Hosted Projects
Version: unspecified
Platform: i386
OS/Version: Linux
Status: NEW
Severity: high
Priority: low
Component: Deployment_Guide
AssignedTo: mhideo(a)redhat.com
ReportedBy: basavaraja_nr(a)spanservices.com
QAContact: rlerch(a)redhat.com
CC: fedora-docs-list(a)redhat.com
Classification: Fedora
Description of problem:
Getting "Segmentation", when we try to get a file from windows using smbclient
command.
Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
[root@fedora32b9 ~]# cat /etc/redhat-release
Fedora release 9 (Sulphur)
[root@fedora32b9 ~]#
How reproducible:
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Execute the smb-client command to get a file from Windows.
smbclient \\\\10.10.60.5\\share -U administrator
2. Enter the Password, note that you will get a smb prompt.
[root@fedora32b9 ~]# smbclient \\\\xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx\\share -U
administrator
Enter administrator's password:
Domain=[LIKEWISEADS] OS=[Windows Server 2003 R2 3790 Service Pack 2]
Server=[Windows Server 2003 R2 5.2]
smb: \>
Here,
xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx (Intentionally IP is changed to xxx...)- is a windows IP
address.
share - is a folder from which the files will be copied.
3. Execute the command mget to copy the files.
NOTE: While executing the mget command, do not mention "*" or a file name, just
enter "mget" and hit Enter.
Actual results: Getting the Segmentation fault, no files are listed.
Expected results:
1. Should not get the "Segmentation fault" on entering "mget" command without
mentioning the files.
2. Should list all the contents of the folder as like other distros Eg:
OpenSuSE 10.1 32 Bit.
Additional info:
[root@fedora32b9 ~]# smbclient \\\\xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx\\share -U administrator
Enter administrator's password:
Domain=[LIKEWISEADS] OS=[Windows Server 2003 R2 3790 Service Pack 2]
Server=[Windows Server 2003 R2 5.2]
smb: \> mget
Segmentation fault
[root@fedora32b9 ~]# smbclient \\\\xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx\\share -U administrator
Enter administrator's password:
Domain=[LIKEWISEADS] OS=[Windows Server 2003 R2 3790 Service Pack 2]
Server=[Windows Server 2003 R2 5.2]
smb: \> mget *

DocBook Editor Update
by satya komaragiri
Hello,
I have uploaded a standalone version at
http://publictest1.fedoraproject.org/beacon/php/
It would be very nice if you could test it out and give some
feedback. I have not completed the testing yet and there are
definitely bugs present. In this light I was hoping for a small issue
management system that would allow users to post bugs related to this
demo in one place. I would not start using it for important docs just
yet. Until 17th I hope we can get a proper beta release out with
feedback, etc. Some buttons may not work as am plugging in the
functionality on the go.
Login requires you to enter your FAS account details.
