Summary: Oracle-xe page for Spacewalk doesn't work
Product: Fedora Hosted Projects
Version: unspecified
Platform: All
OS/Version: Linux
Status: NEW
Severity: medium
Priority: low
Component: Deployment_Guide
AssignedTo: mhideo(a)redhat.com
ReportedBy: mschwage(a)gmail.com
QAContact: rlerch(a)redhat.com
CC: fedora-docs-list(a)redhat.com
Classification: Fedora
Description of problem:
Sorry about the classification of this. I didn't see Spacewalk anywhere in
Bugzilla! Anyway, on the webpage
https://fedorahosted.org/spacewalk/wiki/OracleXeSetup#Install, the install
instructions don't work as advertised. There, it says
"Configure the Oracle XE database by running
# /etc/init.d/oracle-xe configure"
This did not set the system/sys name correctly. Yes, I know, the oracle-xe
command comes from Oracle themselves, but on my RHEL53 machine it just refused
to set the password correctly. Did I try to do it 10 times or more? Yes I
did, and it did not work at all. Did I fat finger my password every single
lousy time I tried it? No I did not, for I was able to create my password as
easy as you please using my workaround below.
Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
oracle-xe-univ-10.2.0.1-1.0
oracle-instantclient-basic-10.2.0.4-1
oracle-instantclient-sqlplus-10.2.0.4-1
How reproducible:
Every time.
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Do this on RHEL53 x86_64. Install the Oracle-XE software as listed.
2. Follow the instructions on
https://fedorahosted.org/spacewalk/wiki/OracleXeSetup#Install, up to and
including the "Test Your Connection with SQLPlus" part.
3. You fail to login.
Actual results:
Fail to login.
Expected results:
Successful login.
Additional info:
The workaround is to perform the following after running /etc/init.d/oracle-xe
configure :
su - oracle
. /usr/lib/oracle/xe/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/server/bin/oracle_env.sh
/usr/lib/oracle/10.2.0.4/client64/bin/sqlplus /NOLOG
CONNECT / AS SYSDBA
alter user sys identified by password;
alter user system identified by password;
sqlplus64 'sys@xe as sysdba'

RPM Guide and RPM Max
by John J. McDonough
At FUDcon, Florian Festi approached me about Docs updating the RPM Guide and
the book, Maximum RPM, both of which have gotten a little stale. The RPM
Guide was already on our radar, and Ben Cotton has taken point on getting
that ready to be worked on.
Maximum RPM is currently hosted at rpm.org, and does not appear to have been
built with the old doc tools. There seem to be some specific dependencies
on Fedora 8, so there will be a little work converting it to something more
up to date.
The other issue, though, is licensing. This probably won't be difficult to
deal with but it is something that needs to be addressed. The current
copyright holder is Red Hat.
We will probably discuss this at an upcoming Docs Team meeting, but I did
want to give everyone a heads-up that this is going on. We may also want to
carry on some discussion on an rpm.org mailing list so that community is
also aware of the effort.
At this point not much has actually happened. Ben has moved the RPM Guide
to git, but I don't think anything else has happened there, I have looked at
the Maximum RPM sources and verified Florian's assessment that this isn't a
straightforward build, and quaid is aware of the licensing issues.
The RPM Guide is at:
git.fedoraproject.org/rpmguide.git
Maximum RPM is at
rpm.org/git/max-rpm.git

Guides changed to CC-BY-SA license.
by Eric Christensen
The Security Guide has been regenerated and posted on docs.fp.o in English and Spanish. The Dutch version is having problems being built, however, so this version hasn't been pushed. Also, the Security Guide package has been updated as well.
I believe Rudi said that all other guides have been rebuilt and pushed to docs.fp.o. Can everyone verify that their package has been updated, please? Please post to the list what you find.
Thanks.

Accessibility Guide
by Eric Christensen
I've contacted GNOME for information on their accessibility tools that they ship with GNOME. I'll be doing the same with KDE. I'm hoping I can get the necessary information on their tools, and maybe some ready-made documentation, that would be beneficial.
If anyone would like to help with this project or have some input ready to go please let me know.

Guides on docs.fp.o
by Eric Christensen
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
If you haven't checked out docs.fp.o lately I'd recommend stopping by to see the new face of Docs, thanks to Rudi. At the top of this page you'll see the placeholder for F12. Right now all the F12 guides are sitting in a draft page[1] that you can use to see what's available for F12. I mention this as an opportunity to make sure your F12 Guides are showing up on that webpage. Please check to make sure everything is squared away and that all translations are showing. As of today we have seventeen days before the release and we need to be ready to go on time. If anything is missing please post to the list so Rudi (and who ever else can do the PGP code) can make the necessary changes.

Bug 527060 - Request for checksum tool for Windows and clarification of instructions for download validation on Windows
by Eric Christensen
This ticket[1] has been sitting in BZ for a few weeks so I grabbed it.
I'd like some input on the best way of remedying the issues.
The ticket contains two problems of which I'll address separately.
<QUOTE>
1. It would be much more convenient if there were a Windows utility for
computing checksums available from the Fedora website. Yes, there are links to
other websites that offer such tools, but this significantly reduces the amount
of trust one can place in the tools, especially since they are not typically
mainstream, high profile sites. The page
(http://docs.fedoraproject.org/readme-burning-isos/en_US/sn-validating-fil...)
even has a prominent warning: "CAVEAT EMPTOR The Fedora Project and Red Hat
Inc.. have no control over external sites such as the ones listed above, or the
programs they provide" in reference to links to Windows checksum tools.
</QUOTE>
I'm not sure what our options are for creating Windows software to
check checksums. Personally I feel that it is out of scope for
Fedora. There are options available to the user but I agree with the
warning provided. Using something like Bit Torrent to download the
ISOs is a good option as the bits are verified automatically but that
doesn't sound like a good option to give to someone running Windows.
Any thoughts?
<QUOTE>
2. From the home page I first clicked on "Get Fedora" in the sidebar. After
downloading the disc image, I clicked on "Verify your download" which led me to
(http://fedoraproject.org/en/verify). At the top of this page was a link for
Windows users with the text "Windows user? Follow these instructions instead."
that led to
(http://docs.fedoraproject.org/readme-burning-isos/en_US/sn-validating-fil...).
But this page for Windows users was not self contained as the word "instead"
implied, since it did not have links to the checksum files. It would clarify
navigation to have all the information needed to verify the download on a
single page, first presenting the checksum files, and then offering a choice
between Linux or Windows for instructions on how to compute the checksum.
</QUOTE>
Well, this does fold into the first problem. Right now the link from
"Get Fedora" sends you to a webpage[2] that provides information on
verifying the checksum from cli. There is a link at the top of the
page that sends you to the "readme-burning-isos" on docs.fp.o (which
may or may not be out of date). This bring up multiple questions in
my head. I don't have a problem putting the information from the
guide on a webpage but should we duplicate the data in the two forms?
Do they both get updated when a change is made? I don't know. But we
should come up with a way forward on this.
Comments encouraged!

All Guides in Publican?
by Eric Christensen
Have all current guides been moved to Publican? Is anyone still using
the "old" toolchain for getting their guides out the door?
