I'm hoping someone on this list will have some thoughts related to this

Subject: kernel 'make rpm', kadischi and kernel version disconnect
To: fedora-livecd-list(a)redhat.com
I'm building a kernel rpm which then I'm trying to build a livecd with for
testing purposes. In my case I've edited the kernel Makefile setting
EXTRAVERSION = _1.2185.2.1_FC6.lspp.21, I used '_' instead of '-' because
of
rpmbuild doesn't like '-'. I build the rpm and then copy
kernel-2.6.16_1.2185.2.1_FC6.lspp.21-1.rpm to /tmp/fc5/Fedora/RPMS and run
createrepo followed by 'kadischi /tmp/fc5 /tmp/fedora-live.iso'. When
kadischi get to the point of running initrd the following happens:
making initrd image
/tmp/livecd-build_no28/system/lib/modules/2.6.16_1.2185.2.1_FC6.lspp.21-1 is
not a directory.
*** Fatal error: /usr/local/share/kadischi/livecd-mkinitrd.sh returned
non zero (256) exit code. Aborting execution.
There is a
/tmp/livecd-build_no28/system/lib/modules/2.6.16_1.2185.2.1_FC6.lspp.21
directory. I see that there is a disconnect related to the release number
(-1) between the kernel rpm build and kadischi but it's unclear where to fix
this in the kernel build or kadischi.
Yes, I'm using a fedora src.rpm but the build contains a script named mkspec
which the build uses to generate kernel.spec.

I assume you build this rpm using the fedora src.rpm and specfile?
Because if not then you really should... ;)

I built a livecd that boots and runs from a src rpm (lspp.27) but I
had to hack lib/functions.py get_kernel_version() so that it didn't
append the release number to the kernel. Maybe Kadischi could check
for the directory with the release number and if it doesn't find it
check for a directory without the release number since it happens that
the kernel 'make rpm' doesn't use the release number.
