For a Gtk2 replacement of xmms, take a look at Beep Media Player:
mp3 subpackage could be created if it's decided that it replaces
or is included in Extras. It even uses the Bluecurve xmms skin :-)
Unfortunately it does not have "double size" feature of xmms. This makes
it problematic for around 100dpi screens (1600x1200@20" or
1280x1024@17") My case exactly :(
