Quick note: this is essentially what debian does.
If you want to go this way, I hope we can avoid the need to generate
a "pristine" tarball and patches. Instead, the contents of the repo should
be directly used for a build. A tarball can be created, but this tarball
would always be the tip of the tree containing both the sources and
the packaging.
