Just out of curiosity: Can squashfs or unionfs build as a module
without patching the core kernel?
Damn, good catch. unionfs requires no patching but squashfs is a little
entangled and requires patching the kernel in order to build. So
unionfs is a good candidate for Extras but squashfs needs Core support.

Might take some more weeks but we're getting somewhere. Stay tuned on
the usual mailing list, but give us some days to sort everything out.
Ah great! I'll watch for further postings from you, then :-)
